checking/spinning the ball on hard greens

Hi guys, played today at the belfry . i was having problems getting my ball(proV) to check on the greens, couple of hopes then runs through the green any ideas / tips..

clean your clubs? hit the ball first. you'll have more luck in fairway.

Ball are much easier to spin when they are dry, so that could have been an issue. Also, try striking down on the ball and make sure your grooves aren't worn.
