F2 Wedges

There are so many "improvement" devices out there, and most seem ineffectual at best... The idea behind the f2 wedges, where the hosel is back behind the face, seems like a good idea, especially if you have any problem with hitting it off the hosel on those short chips.

Has anyone here used these? I was thinking of getting a 60 degree. Do they work better than regular wedges? Thanks!

First thing to know is that the F2 wedge is not a new idea. It is an old idea from the 1960s that has been re-introduced with some modifications I would assume. I think it was Jerry Barber, 1961 USPGA champion who designed, and used one.

That being said a golf friend of mine has a couple of the F2s and loves them. He swears by them, but tends to hit fat shots off fairway, and thin lies. Those fat shots are his problem, and not the clubs'. I have used his a couple of times, and they seem to work well, but not well enough for me to change out my present wedges. I did feel that the F2 made bunker shots a little bit easier.

IMHO, It's a decent club, that would offer confidence, and personal morale to the user. Besides, as I recall the infomercial, there is money back guarantee if not satisfied. GJS

I was about to buy one when the gentleman selling it commented that he wouldn’t dare bring one out with his friends because they would “laugh him out of the game.” . I thought about it, and I declined buying one since the wedges are such an important part of the game I thought I should lean to overcome my wedge problems. I then proceeded to buy a chipper which worked beautifully – but ultimately delayed my progress with my wedges.

I know this doesn’t answer your question, but it may be a consideration.

I would think hitting off the hosel would indicate and swing issue and not something you would necessarily want to mask.

No doubt... I hit a full wedge fine. It's the shots under 50 yards that I sometimes hit the hosel or I skull it. I have much more of a problem with my 60º Cleveland LW. I think it has a 6º bounce. I think I'm skipping it off the tight lies and skulling it. This of course would be from hitting behind the ball. But I notice I don't have the problem when using my Lynx SW from the 70's. It looks like it has a wide sole but 0º bounce, a very sharp leading edge. I hit that better than any pitching club I have.

I think my hitting on the hosel comes from "reaching" for the ball. I it counter that most times by putting the ball further away in my stance. Maybe I'm making my swing too fast. I see a lot of very slow swings at wedges on TV.

I just saw some really good advice on the short game from the Golf 100 teachers DVD on the short game. putting the weight on the left foot, keeping the hands quiet (G's RH Drill), coming down and through the pitch, creating a 8:00-4:00 swing, a 9:00-3:00 swing and a 10:00-2:00 swing. I'll try it out tomorrow.

One thing that seems difficult is coming down and through (which Marshall talks abut a lot too) while keeping the hands cocked forward, and still not taking a deep divot.
