From 5 feet and in pick a balde of grass between your ball and your putter face and watch the putter slide past.
From 5 feet distance/speed isnt as important as line and a firm, accelerating stroke.

WHIZZ--in my opinion you would do yourself better by swinging the putter "on plane"---like you would want to do with All your clubs----putter should be no different----ONE THING ABOUT STAN UTLEYS TEACHING IS THAT HE WOULD LIKE everyone to have a putter minimum 34 inches and preferably 36 inches----MOST TOUR PLAYER DO NOT USE A 36 INCH PUTTER---STAN IS TEACHING HIS PREFERENCE AND THATS ALL IT IS----use whatever length putter you like but definitely swing the putter on plane----to practice this perfectly---construct a plane board the same angle as the lie of your putter----providing when you address the putter it is flat on the ground---dont have the toe up or down----lets say your shaft angle is 72 degrees----the plane board should be the same 72 degree angle----rest your putter head on that angle and hit some putts from various lengths to feel what a correct on-plane stroke feels like-----i hope this helps----if you go on stan utleys sight he sells these plane angle boards but i believe his are set at 70 degrees-----again he teaches a stroke with a longer and flatter plane angle than most use----its my preference to use a 33.5 inch putter ---but its only preference---i still want to swing the putter on--plane------hope i did not confuse you---hope this helps.

WHIZZ--youll find the plane so much more of a natural movement---than a mechanically manipulated stroke----dont forget things like touch and feel---i tried pelzs sroke for months----t definitely go worse---i lost all touch and feel---maybe my sroke was better in the eyes of pelz but green reading and feel did not improve at all-----too many 3 jacks----maybe a robot can swing straight back---straight through with no face rotation but hman anatomy doesnt----what would professional golf do without pelz?----the same as theyve been doing---IMPROVE ----HES SELLING THIS TO US NOT TOUR PROS----name 15 tour pros who putt like he suggests----ill stick to what the best player in the game are doing---thank you

Re: My putting is killing me!!!

            hi homer
i agree that most pros use shorten putter shafts but this is so there eyes are more over the ball and this in turn give them more of a plendum swing than an barn door type swing. most top tour playes use a pendulm type swing for putting and very few use a barn door swing that you talk about or the wrist type swing that palmer use to use. two of the best ever putters of a ball bob charles and ben crenshaw use a plendulm swing.
the more your heads over the ball the more you just need to turn your shoulders and keep arms and hands firm. i dont see anything unnatural about that. i agree that some people like you dont like that way of putting and dont feel happy using it, but i would not say it dont work as a system just because it dont work for you. the plez system of putting does work for lots of people and it does make sence to have the putter face facing the target for as long as possable and not opening and closing.
its a bit like trevino's full golf swing, his open stance and way he pushed his arms away through the striking zone gave his club face longer looking at the target than any other pro in the game and the results are there for every one to see.
one thing plez does talk about that most teachers dont is the right type of putter for you and why. most player today have the wrong putter. like you say most play with a 36 inch shaft when a 33/34 inch shaft would be better for them as it gets your eyes over the ball more. he also tells you why each type (center shafted, heel shafted and toe shafted) of putter is best for you and that inclued barn door type putters of the ball.
i dont say one type of putting systen is better than another as i belive if it works then use it but its like looking at the hole and not the ball when putting if you are going to try and and it dont work for you then dont say it dont work for every one when it does for some people.
            cheers
            bill

I use a center shafted Odessey two ball, love it. Regardless of what putter you have, here is a tip very few people take into concideration, the loft. Grab your putter and carpenters square, sit the putter on a flat surface and put the square onto the face, see that angle the shaft leans forward, that same angle needs to be there when you hit the ball, this goes back to my putter fitting thing, if setting up with that hands that far forward is uncomfortable, then it needs adjusting. You get the truest roll when no loft is apply, a flat hit during the stroke. Manufacturers assume you will have the hands forward of the ball, that is why loft is built into it, how much, depends on you and your setup, try adjusting the setup to allow the putter face a zero loft hit, you will surprized at how much better the ball rolls.
