  • Advanced Techniques on Pitching

Here are some advanced techniques on pitching

    How to control distance

Distance control is a very important factor in shooting lower scores, the ability to put the ball close enough to the hole that you have some feasible birdie putts

Tempo- Tempo determines the distance the golf ball will travel to the hole. Faster tempo for longer pitch shots, and slower tempo for shorter shots.

Length of Backswing- The length of your backswing will also influence how far the golf ball will travel on your pitch shots. The longer the back swing the more potential for speed. Thus the golf ball will travel a longer distance. The shorter the backswing, the less distance the ball will travel.

Combine these two effective techniques, and you will much closer to the flagstick on your pitch shots

    By the clock

An article that helped me with the short game, I forgot where I read it, was pitching by the clock.

If you assume straight towards the sky is 12 o'clock and 6 is straight down, 9'oclock a 1/2 siwng, etc. It helps gauge the amount of backswing for the shots distance. Also I find it can help to actually say the time on the clock you want to swing to as you swing. For instance, I know with a GW a 1/2 swing goes about 30yds. So I say 9(backswing) - o'(the essential pause at the top of the swing) - clock (throughswing).

It's helped me save par a few times when I miss the green.

      Jim,

That sounds like a Pelz technique. His short game bible is a very good source of info.
