alinement for putting

I am left eye dominant. In fact, I am all but blind in my right eye, and close it when putting. I have an awful time lineing up properly. It seems as though I miss an equal no. left and right. Any tips on how to properly aline my putt s.

HI there,

Try aligning the putter face first, then stand parallel to the target, best tip I ever had at this moment 'place your right hand on your right thigh' just before you grip the putter with both hands, it squares you up lovely.


Feel the ball into the hole, try the eyes closed drill, set up then close your eyes.


Remember putting is a personal thing, with your condition only you know best.

Make sure you have your eyes directly over the ball at address. I don't think it will make any difference that it is only your left eye aligning. As Ian says stand parallel to the ball to hole line. If you keep your eyes behind or in front of ball you will create a parallax situation that creates more an more error as putting distance increases

I line all my shots up the same way - for all clubs and all shots.

1) I stand behind my ball and pick my target.
2) I pick an intermediary target on the same line, a foot or two in front of my ball.
3) I stare at the intermediary target as I move up beside my ball. Then I square my clubface to that target. As a left-eye dominant golfer, I close my right eye to ensure I'm setting up square.
4) I place my feet, keeping my clubface square.
5) One last look at my target, and swing.

How I select my target on the green:

I stand behind my ball, in a straight line from my ball to the hole. I stand so that I can see both my ball and the hole without moving my eyes. I then imagine putts, and imagine the break, and imagine the speed, so that I get a ball dropping center cup. When I 'see' that line, I pick a spot in front of my ball on that line, and carry on with the steps above. Start the ball on that line with the right weight, and watch the putt drop.
