As mentioned in another thread, last weekend, following some advice from a friend, I tried a different putting style and I wanted to get some thoughts from the masses here about both styles, pre and post change...
(Hope that makes sense...)
Firstly, I try to use a pendulum motion, straight back and through, and whilst I am concious of trying to get my eyes over the ball, it appears I am not doing so...
During the first round on Saturday, I was putting with my old (normal) stroke and putted reasonably (or so I thought) with only a couple of 3 putts from memory. But I didn't make anything of any length all day.
Over dinner that evening, one of my playing partners mentioned he thought I was standing too far away from the ball when putting, which resulted in my putter not resting flat on the ground, rather the toe of the putter was anything up to an inch or 2 higher than the heel. He said this would cause me to pull all my putts left. Which, on reflection, is pretty much what was happening.
So on Sunday, I tried to be very concious of standing much closer to the ball and having the sole of the putter resting squarely on the ground. It felt very awkward to say the least and it will take me some time to get used to it. At this point I am unsure if I will persist, other than to say I haven't really been trying it long enough to be ablew to gauge any improvement or otherwise....
My longwinded question is (sorry for babbling on a bit) what are the chances my friend (a single figure marker) is right and should I persist...
Cheers
