Shorty, do me a favour mate and post a link to where that question was asked.

Other, that is, than in your king imagination.

What does your reply have to do with "Optimum" putting speed as originally posted? The same question could be asked of the other responders. Don’t they care about it? I did a search on the words: optimum, putting, and speed, and NONE occurred in their replies!!

Perhaps this is because you, yourself, in your original post, starting this topic off, give NO CLUE WHATSOEVER what the issue under debate is.

You state som kind of claim from some unknown source, with no personal input added from you, and no question put forward.

So if the "implied question" is "Who cares", then the answer is in the responses. However, it will be your own conclusion based on "implied answers" and not necessarily the respondents explicit sentiments you get back from them.

Perhaps an idea would be to make your topics more clear?

          hi shorty
if you read on of my posts you would of seen that i talk about how fast the ball went past the hole to give you a 12 to 18 inch putt back and why at that speed it had a grater chance of dropping into the hole than a putt of 24 inch putt past the hole would have, i was clearly talking about speed and putting so i can only take it you dont bother to read any replys or you would of seen i did talk about an optimum speed for a ball to drop in the hole when putting .
maybe you should read some of the replys first before putting every one down and brian and bdbl also spoke about putting and speed's but then again i do read there comments.

This is a statement in the original post, which represents my input to the subject:
"I think players would appreciate knowing a tolerance on this distance, that is some trade off in distance past for less per cent of putts holed. Here’s one based on this graph: If the stopping distance is in range (12-30 inches) then the percent of successful putts will be greater than 90% of the peak percentage. "

You are free to think that.

Are you asking us to tell you if you're wrong or right? Do you want us to tell you what WE think about what players would appreciate?

It still isn't clear to me.

You are making a statement regarding an issue, and that statement may well be correct and very valid. You just don't seem to line up any topic for debate.

It has the effect ... and please don't be offended by this, because I mean no harm ... of you talking to yourself out loud. It's not very effective in a discussion forum, and - as you have already discovered yourself - result in other posters missing your point and replying to issues that are not part of your original objective.

I'm just suggesting that you make the purpose of the topic and the issue you wish to debate very clear, for the good of everybody.

                Re: “Optimum” putting speed

                Shorty,

You may have gathered by now that we do not understand what your objective is with your posts. As Mox rightly said this is a discussion forum, members may have a problem with their game and ask for help or assistance, some post an idea or theory and request others to comment on it.

Your posts seem to be sterile and have no obvious meaning or way of promoting debate. I have asked you a number of times now if you can clarify your objective. As you have not replied I have considered that you are not serious in creating discussion so have not commented further. I respectfully request you clarify the issue or do something else with your time.

                  Re: “Optimum” putting speed

I think that the best way to understand alternatives to Pelz’s 17 inch rule, as I’ve done in this post, is to put it into practical context. This has been done in my post [Simplified practice putting around the clock] in the practice forum. The alternative numbers are introduced for the 6 and 12 o’clock positions, where you are putting pure uphill and downhill, respectively.
If you don’t understand Pelz’s 17 inch rule to begin with, this is how he introduces it in the Aug ’06 issue of Golf Magazine. Refering to the attached figure he states under the title FIND THE RIGHT SPEED FOR EVERY PUTT:
Both putts at left were started on the same line. Notice how the first one (the yellow ball), released too low from my TruRoller device, rolled too slow and missed below the hole. The second putt (the white ball) rolled too fast and missed on the high side.
So what’s the lesson? Simple: Speed affects the line, and good speed is critical for putting success.
So what do you do? You must find a way to roll putts 17 inches past the hole (when they miss). Research proves the putts have a greater chance of finding the cup (regardless of putt length) when the ball rolls at this speed.” (see attached Speed Readings figure)
