  • Wedge Shots and Spin...

My Understanding of Different Trajectories and Spin with wedges

1)Low Shot bounces once, twice and stops (Check)
2)Medium Height shot bounces once and on second bounce spins back (Backspin)
3)High shot stops on first bounce (Stop)
    ----------------------------------------------
Okay now to hit the first two shots what do you do?

Is it ball slightly back of center, Hands a little forward, Weight 60/40 to front foot, Short firm swing and Keep turning through the hit?

I've tried to pinch it before and I just didn't get the extra crisp contact you need. I just can't get spin!!!

    Re: Wedge Shots and Spin...

Loft and solid contact on the sweetspot promotes spin. Placing the ball back, hands forward delofts the club and reduces spin. The ideal conditions help, nice fairway lie, high spin ball, soft greens.

I am not sure where you play but just look and see how many times you see a ball spin back, not many I would guess and particularly with short pitches.

The high shot with a quick stop is easier by using a lob shot over short distance with a high lofted wedge hit under the ball, don't bother with a hard pan lie. Longer pitches with a wedge can also fly high with a soft stop and you should keep the wedge upright as designed, you can open the face of the club to create more loft though.

The thing to always keep in mind is that when the ball is struck it will take off in a direction between the swingpath and the angle of the clubface but biased more towards the clubface direction, so the greater the loft the higher the ball flight.
