I use the pink ones though they're not castellated (lovely word) - but they seem to be lower than the received wisdom, but work for me. I like the stability and predictability of having the same teeing height each time.

I tried them but got fed up with the Barbie and Graham Norton quips.

In all seriousness, I'm playing with pink balls at the moment - much harder to lose

After yesterday's efforts I reckon I could use a football teed up high and still not hit the £)£8&?> thing properly.

In 3 days I've regressed back and beyond where I was a year ago and the rate of decline shows no sign of slowing down.

I thinking about taking a couple of weeks away from golf just to try and clear my head of the negative thoughts; has anyone else got any thoughts or suggestions?

                    Oh! that sounds bad Robin.

OK, sounds like you had bad game but what exactly is going wrong out there?

I can only guess at the moment and draw on some personal experience. When this has happened to me (and it has many many times) I get into a situation that becomes self perpetuating, I have a number of bad holes, I start to speed up my tempo without realising it, I start looking up early to see what the shot was like, the results get worse, I tense up and so on and so forth.

I know this may sound simplistic but just slow it down, swing easily, relax, and things generally improve.

                      Hi Brian

                      Thanks for the response.

Not a bad round exactly - at least by my standards.

On Sunday had a nightmare front 9 (with the S word) for a 51 but pulled it round with near bogey golf on the back 9 for a 96 which is 10 over my PB but only 6 away from my current "playing to about 20" so really just a bit off - and this time last year I'd have collapsed rather than recovering a bit.

However went to the range on Monday:

Added some 8s and 7s - not A1 but I'd take them "for real"
A few utilities - better if again not the best

Got the driver out and while the ahem fade might have been larger than I'd hoped I think I could have played with it.

So far so good; whilst we might like our best across all clubs all of the time this would be fine - especially if I was putting OK

Went to the practice bunker - sand washed away in the rain and then hard packed with 1 days sun, waste of time.

Went back to the grass still with 1/3 to 1/2 a bucket to go and couldn't hit a thing, not a thing - hadn't lost one "shot", had lost them all, swing completely disappeared with no idea what I was doing.

                      Just went home.
The other reason I went home was the thunder & lightning that was just coming nearer & nearer. This meant that I had 30 - 40 balls stuffed into golf bag so went back yesterday and topped up with another small bucket.

Again started OK with some up to 100yd pitches to warm up , moved to the V5 and started hitting it quite well, back to the irons and bang it was all gone again.

Looking at your main paragraph I think I am "speeding up and looking"; I also wonder if too much of the big stick is throwing off my tempo in a desire to see those boomers?

What a stupid expletive deleted game this is. Had a break late this afternoon so nipped out to the range.

Last 2 horrible visits might just not have happened, hitting the ball luvly guv, cor blimey I was.

No expletive deleted idea why (or why I wasn't) - expect perhaps I was a little calmer.

Ah well at least I can look forward to the next round.

For the benefit of our cousins who may not be au fait (sic) with the subtle nuances of English English what Brian meant was -

"well done Robin, I was sure it was only a temporary problem that an attention to tempo and routine would fix - enjoy your next round"

Well at least I hope he meant that!

                            Cheers mate.

To translate literally from the English Wessex dialect to BBC English: "Goodness gracious, I am overwhelmed with surprise and enjoyment for your achievement"
