  • putting from off the green

hi this is my first post here

ill sart but talling u a bit bout me. im 15 and have been playing golf "on and off for a few years now althought i only play the small par 3 course atm coz i cant afford thefull course an my drives are not straight enouth yet.

but when i did go on my local full course (now its 27 holes in 3 9 hole sections) i found that i often ended up just off the edge of the green w/ a very long putt (or it seemed long for me) and i struggled with them.

a few weeks late i was talking to a mate who had came over the the stats whos plays alot of golf and she said that a good tip for this kinda off green putt was to use a 6 or 7 iron and use it as a putter and putt the shot. so next time i was faceing a long off green putt i tryed it out and it work great.

i think this is probaly one of the best tips i have ever been given so i thought i would share it with all you. if u have any feed back about it please tell me i would like to hear it

    Welcome Ash,

Glad to have you here. I think your friend gave you some sound advise. I advise my students to chip with 6i to a Lob wedge. I have them use the same stroke and setup and see how far each club goes with that swing over level ground, then uphill and down hill so they can see what there chip shot will do. This gives you more options with one swing, one tempo.

Putting off the green can be done if the grass is smooth leading up to the green. Putting generally is the first option, chipping next. Try to get it rolling like a putt as quick as possible. This is better for beginners.

Hope this shaves a few off your score,

      thx 4 the reply

its helped me with the hugh putts as my local course has quite a few big greens and i find it hard to find the lengh with my putter (as its quite light)

i was just wondering if any one had any feed back on this method or any other methods like it. or if any one has tryed this out and found it to be good or bad
