Hi guys I have spoken to some in a general way about our member base vanishing,I truly don't know what happened. Brian has said there were some disruptive members who got canned. It is hard to know how many they took with them or how many were really offended and left. LowPost42 was very active in the club building forum, I for one miss him,but he has become over stretched.Ted took a lifetime of knowledge with him when he left, he was like an encyclopaedia of golf. For me it's frustrating to post and have it sit there for months unanswered, and I have long since found my answer else where. At one stage I made many, only to see them unanswered and look like I have hogged the forum. I don't pretend to know how one runs a recruiting drive on the net but guess it would involve sponsorship and therefore competitions with prizes to draw some interest. Offering something other sites don't, others more experienced may be able to make suggestions. Other than these concerns, the only thing that REALLY annoys me is dropping out and having to log in again frequently. I am not a fast typist and choose my words carefully, so it is a constantly annoying .

    Respectfully, Pete

PS For instance, it has taken my original log a copy re log and paste to do this one

    Re: Site collapse

Some people like 'Keiko' managed to upset and drive away a number of good contributers. The infighting this caused tended to also drive off good members who didnt like the name calling and insults that were being thrown around. I hope these people will come back.

Lowpost and Ted (Rotator) were great contributors, I liked Ted and enjoyed discussing golf with him. He did get some insulting posts from one person which seemed to stop him posting. I hope he is in good health, I have tried to contact him a few times but with no reply.

All I can do is keep trying to help people and contribute where I can, I hope things improve with time.

There have also been some very knowledgeable posters who were also generally civil but who were very rigid and narrow minded in their beliefs on the golf swing. I can think of several posters who took their ball and went home when their dogmatic ideas were challenged and alternative ideas were shown to also be valid. I believe they felt that the forum was ungrateful and unworthy of their time for not accepting their every word as gospel.

          Re: Site collapse

Let me start with ,I used to be golfshooter but something went awry, and there we have it after years as golfshooter I'm wearing a different hat.
A bloke once told me,in my youth, that if you want to sell a car you have to get people there to look at it. He gave me some examples and off I went. I had a type 3 VW wagon with the engine highly modified for beach and road. The people arriving early saw it, saw the rust had been removed and repaired, flared rear gards and some huge aircraft tyres leaning on the fence. I hadn't mentioned them in the ad. They were very excited as they came over until they saw it was an automatic transmission ( I hadn't mentioned that in the ad.) they were about to leave when I extolled the virtues of the auto off road, which is true, and said take it for a drive now they were here. I swear they came back with their hair standing on end! The power blew them away and I threw the tyres in free. What has that got to do with our membership? We have a lot of competition out there but this site is special, I know of only one other site that has a balance of lounge,instruction/lessons, building golf equipment, reviews I could go on but what I am saying is it is too good to lose. My story about the car sale is a tried and proven formula. There are no reasons to lie, we simply have to get people to look, it's benefits are self evident. I don't know anything about how this site is kept running, but it seems a lot of good work is being done by a few good people. I think we need sponsorship that can offer real benefits to members eg. discounts at certain retail outlets and cyber shops. Some kind of monthly medal vouchers. I don't know enough about business and how this can be achieved, but we gotta get people to look at the vehicle.

            Re: Site collapse

            Hi folks!

I don't know if I have been counted as one of those who got upset by the discussion and just vanished elsewhere? If that has happened, it is not true. From time to time I have made a short visit but not often - I have been too busy doing everything else.

In regards to Keiko, we had some quite "warm" discussions but nothing intolerable. I have a pretty stubborn style and character, we call it sisu here but sometimes it kicks back . When I wrote actively here I was obsessed with spins and ball trajectories. I can imagine such one-minded communication drives anybody crazy. There are so many other aspects in golf anyhow. I am glad I was not banned ...

I have not given up trying to understand the flight of the golf ball but that is not topic #1 on my agenda anymore.

I sincerely appreciate the balance between stories, instructions etc as radar1 mentioned. I hope the site will be vivid again! I promise that at least I will try to participate more for the next few months.

Whether update for Finland: now we have minus 18 Celsius here, minimum of this winter (so far) was below -40 up north near the Russian border a week ago. But the spring is approaching, hopefully the first golf courses will be open before May 1st.

Last summer (up to end of October, actually) I played roughly 100 rounds. I made my first eagle in July on a 440 meter par-5: 230 meter drive followed by a perfect hybrid shot just 2 meters short of the hole followed by a simple put. And I also won the "longest drive" in one unofficial competition, that shot was maybe +250 m. Just guess what I still miss: the hole-in-one.

            Best Regards,
            Paraneva

Well, I definitely miss a lot of the guys from years back. Shootin4par stood out to me - heck remember when Jeff Man was here too at some point? Magnum as well I believe.

GTO has had quite the mix of posters - each with his own quality and I remember discussions always got passionate - but never direspectful.

I've been out of the forum scene in these parts because I have been trying hard to solidify my own golf swing first.

I hope we can get more users here, I'm sure we will. I will be improving my blog and hope to get more users that way as well.
