Simple tuition for beginners.

Hi All,

Having been a member on this site for some time now, I would like to thank everybody for the advice and help received in improving my game.

However, I would like to make a suggestion which I feel may be needed for the new beginner and those who dont have a "degree" in this beautiful game.

when posting for advice on problems, and general instruction, I find that the relevant replies, although helpful, can be too technical and difficult to understand for the average golfer. Would it be possible to add a forum where advice and replies can be given in more simple terms.

Any opinions on the possibility of this suggestion would be appreciated.

Just state how you would like the replies. So it taylors the response types (hopefully). But a "Beginners" fourm group is also a good idea.

I would suggest the replies be more a simple explanation for the raw beginner. As for the more experienced player, I am sure the terminology and advice given is perfect. Glad to see you agree with the idea of a beginners forum

There is already a "New to Golf" group. But this and a "Beginners" group would assume the answers the posters give look at the group it came from. I usually use look in the "Latest Posts" link and see all the new threads and replies.

can you give an example of a begginer question and a too technical answer please?

i don't want to sound too mean..... but some of us don't want to explain the simple things becuase it takes too much time. everyone has access to google and there can be good info found out there explaing what a yip is or a fat shot or a out to in etc. all begginer terms.

is that what you mean by saying begginer questions?

or you could just have someone make a site with all begginer terms.....

vardon grip, in to out, strait slice, push slice, pull slice (AKA fade) yips, shank etc. because some begginers ask wrong things calling a slice (strait flight then turns right) a push slice or a fade.... they don't nessasarily need to call it the right term, but they should say starts this direction the turns or doesn't. some people say shanking it while they are actaully hitting it thin.....

For any beginner, a simple discription of the fundamental grip, and swing path should be the first thing they should know about before they even pick up, or swing a golf club. Too many beginners grab a club, and just go for it. By the time they figure out what the swing is supposed to be like, they have already created too many bad swing habits. Getting rid of those bad habits are alot tougher than learning the proper grip/swing from the very start.

I have taught the basics of the golf swing to my children, their children, and to their children's children. Trust me, the easier the instruction is to understand, the longer they stay with the game.

The information for the beginner should be for their ego, and not for the person giving the instruction. GJS

There is a menu pick at the top of this site for "Golf lessons" that cover many fundamentals of the game with good illustration.

I agree that a glossary of golf terms would be good and maybe a Frequently Asked Questions. I guess the problem here it is a lot of work for someone to do and it would have to be a single source otherwise it would be full of others debating whether they agreed with the data.

With regards to GJS's comments on ego: He is absolutely correct that anyone giving advice should aim to boost others confidence and not be on a personal ego trip . I try to help by commenting where I can so that I may be able to assist others with things I had to learn over a long time and at some amount of effort and cost. Although it is appreciated when you get a polite thank you, I would be mortified to think anyone considered I did it for my own ego.

I would like to thank the efforts of most people who assist here, they are a great community and many of the articles and debates are riveting to read and participate in.
