    Re: New Blog/Journal System

I note that even though I have my blog set to allow comments without moderation, the comments don't appear until I approve them, i.e., I have to moderate. This may be why people are not finding the comments they leave. I also note that the "views" counter doesn't work. All new blogs show zero views.

ubizmo, please check on new comments now, you now shouldn't have to approve them... please let me know if this is not the case

view counts are updated on an hourly basis and they appear to be working... again let me know if you don't see this

Actually, I'm not seeing any comments, on my blog or anyone else's. When I click on "comments" nothing changes.

            Had this problem too.

Comments are now visible but the default setting kind of hides them. If you go to "Quick Links" / "Manage Blocks there is a "Display Comments" check box which (for me at least) was disabled, if you un-tick this then the comments are displayed much better.

Typed that from memory so might not be 100% on the wording but easy enough to follow once you try.

NOW ALL I NEED is some comments on my blogs request for help

I tried this, but it only creates a pane that displays the first line of comments. The comments themselves are not displayed. I can't see them in my blog or anyone else's.

This a bit cumbersome but until the problem is fixed.....

Under Quicklinks hit Manage Entries andf then choose Manage Comments, lo and behold there is a comment box; not sure how long the comment can be but I now know that the second line of Brian's comment to me is:

will be lost to view and I cannot see how to view the complete comment?

For some reason I find the fact that the "missing line" tells me that it is "lost to view" strangely amusing but thats just me and I haven't taken the pills yet.

Edit: Only helps you see comments people have made on your blog of course

                  Hi Robin,

Yes, I did enter the comment with tongue in cheek

                    Re: New Blog/Journal System

Is it possible to have comments shown relative to the posts they are comments TO?

In my blog, comments are placed in the bottom, all comments below all posts. Not very logical.

Also ... how do you embed youtube clips?

I think my present opinion is that while the blog feature is potentially more powerful, it's not quite ready for prime time, and the Journal section of the general forum was simpler to use.

                        Hi Mox,

embedding youtube clips is done easily... simply paste the you tube link in your post and the rest is done for you. I haven't tried this on the blog yet, but it is definatley a forum feature

                          Greg,

The main problem with Blog is that the comments are not expandable

There also seems to be no simple way to associate them with the blog entry to which they are related. I can assign a block that shows the first line or so of recent comments, and that block can sit at the top, bottom, left, or right of the blog entries, but the comments are all aggregated there, regardless of which blog entry they pertain to.

So far, the only way I've found to read comments in their entirety is to use the "Manage comments" tool, which obviously only works for my own blog.

                              Hi Greg,

The new Blog area is not as good as the old one. I think we all like to post our Blogs and get feedback from others also to engage in some threaded comments.

Currently it seems that someone posts to their blog and that is more or less the end of it.

Please do not see this a ctitism but more a constructive comment.

                                Re: New Blog/Journal System

I have to say I endorse what Brian's said whole-heartedly. The old system may not have been beautiful, but in a very Bauhaus way, it did exactly what it was supposed to. It feels like we've lost the dialogue between members about their games, and lost the 'centrality' of it - now it's as though it stuck in it's own little cul-de-sac, and because it doesn't work as well, and the commenting doesn't work, people both don't tend to use it as much, and don't tend to view it as much.

Like Brian, I have nothing against it - it seemed and seems a good idea, but the problems with the functionality seem to be holding it back a little.

All the best as ever, and thanks for your on-going work
