    Re: Forum Participation

I just took a look...I think I was right, all the new people are posting in the "new members" area. We need to move their discussion out into the general areas and just use that section to say hello...hell I'd nearly consider removing it or at the very least, add a sticky to direct people to pose questions etc in the main area.

There actually is a lot of action in there!

just as well you spotted that as many off us just look at the latest posts and would of missed the new members post.

        Re: Forum Participation

I found it interesting that this thread stood for over six months without another to follow it. Kind of tells it all.

          Re: Forum Participation

I have seen many new posts in the last few months? Looking at some other sites this one is quite lively, some sites hardly get a new thread in many months.

I guess it is what we as members make of it.

            Its damn quiet out there.
Personally I found the posting of cmays incomprehensible and I would be willing to bet that they scared a lot of the newer members away from posting on this "experts" forum.
Are we still getting new members post in the welcome forum? Maybe we need to go there and ask the new members something about themselves or their goals or experience or *something*?
This used to be a great place to laze away the hours... I havent seen a new thread in months.
With due respect to you, Gree, and to the generous hosts and moderators on this forum, the results speak for themselves, IMO. The "keep it simple stupid" attitude has not been conducive to newbie participation, and frankly, not conducive to participation in general.

There are a thousand places on the web where people can get golf magazine instruction repeated for beginners. There are very few places where people who thoroughly understand the swing(s) and the different swing philosophies and who can separate the chaff from the wheat have discussions. Even fewer such people who are willing to take the time to post on a forum for the benefit of others, regardless of their personal motives.

Please do not misconstrue this as some back door "Cmays" defense and dismiss it as such. Believe me IT’S NOT. It has nothing to do with him. If folks wish to continue to prop up that strawman and knock him down, fine, but I don’t know how his expertise or attitude can be scaring away newbies when he’s no longer here and hasn’t been for a long, long time.

This is not MY site. I have no right to demand how it is run, nor am I. I am just responding to Jambs original question (and Gree’s implied question), "What’s the deal?" with forum participation.

I believe Brian has very astutely and succinctly summarized the entire situation.

i am a moderator on a site for a scottish soccer team, we had a bit of a lull in posting.

done a facebook page and that seemed to help.

very good points rotator. I completly agree esp with the videos. Its a shame that someone should feel intimidated on here, although i have no doubt they probably never meant it.

Unfortuntely its a fact of life that when our views are challenged we find ourselves in a need to defend them (even if we are kind of on the fence about them ourselves). I still find myself getting a littel heated too when people disregard certain things as rubbish, you can seee freom the videos above that there are more than one ways to do it. And at the last count something like 46000 technique books.

Dont be frightened of posting something, ever. A good moderator or person should enjoy having their views challenged. Sure they may get heater about it but thats cos they love it so much, it should never be a personal thing. I personally relish having my beleifs challenged as it gives me an opportunity to see if they hold up under scrutiny, the only sure way to make sure they are valid. As long as people dont get ignorant and are willing to open their mind its fine.

                    hi
my take on the cheating boxs is! there no diffrent to the pro's having a caddy telling them the distance and how much thet will have to take in for the wind?
the pros have the aid of caddys that do all the ground work. distance to bunker. how far the flags on the green etc.
i do see Brian and lowpost point about not judging the distance with your eyes and i think thats a must if you want to get a low handicap but you also have older golfers who's eyes are not what they were and its a great help to them to be able to use GPS.
i think there are good and bad uses for them and do not think they should be used in comps.
i do not use one buyt if my eyes were to get bad with old age then i might use one just like i would use glasses to help me see.
there are times when such aids could help people play where otherwise they would hang up there clubs.
                    cheers

I don't think you were the subject in question. Unless you're a rejoin - but since you've been around since '06, I don't think it's you.

                          Hey boys,

Been bit quiet this end for various reasons. Chucked a bit of a wobbly at work and had some time from work, the kids now being at school and just struggling to motivate myself.

I would like to add that the contributions can become repetitious in nature at times. So for mine less inclination to post - a possible reason.

They tend to be about golf swing problems and associated issues which are a little repetitious by nature. As mentioned previously it's what we all make of it.

                            Any recommendations welcome Nickers?

It seems to me that most Golf Forums are quiet, this one may not be the liveliest but it is better than many.

I have noticed that the nature of such sites is that people start posting fairly often and then fade away for what ever reason. I can only say that the facility is there for people to use and people can normally expect a lively debate on subjects they raise.

There appears to be a high level of new members joining but unfortunately they dont seem to become very active.
