  • Weather in the UK

What we've had this year so far :

January - Poured with rain, course either closed or waterlogged.

The next 3 weeks we had clear skies but overnight frosts. Had to play on an icy golf course. Driving was okay but all second shots hit the green and bounced 30 yards thru. A bit of a farce to be honest.

The next 3 weeks we had winds. Ranging between 40mph to 60mph every day. A few tree's were lost. Very difficult to play golf in.

Then it rained again. The course is waterlogged, barely playable. 7 Irons are going about 110 yards, drives about 210.

Next it's going to snow !

Very annoyed. If was a fair weather golfer I would have played about 3 rounds this year. I seem to spend all my time checking weather forecasts
to see if I can get a game at the weekend.

I'm just hoping we have a decent summer this year !

    Amen to that.

Got my first serious competition this Sunday and it's meant to bloody snow!

Does mother nature not realise it almost feckin April?!

I am going to take great joy in playing my first round of 2008 in short sleeves (if that ever happens).

I've been playing in a few competitions and done reasonably well. The trouble is; at my club we play off the same tee's that we do in the summer. We don't play off forward tee's. The course is very, very long with all the mud, cold air and wind. There is little chance of scoring close to your handicap. (Some par 4's are out of reach in 2 etc). Most medals are won by net scores over par.

I'm hoping the weather gets better and we start to get some "run on".

I can't wait because my game is as good as it's ever been !

You could send some this way. we have had 4 courses close (that i know of) in South Australia due to no water. It has not rained here that would count since the week before Christmas.

Well there you are, snowing in soft shandy swigging southwest London.

Bah, I've been out a few times this year but not enough and I won't be going out today either.

Shouldn't you tough northerners have been on course at dawn on way back from t'mill to clear the course on your knees using only your hands? I'm sure Keith would have been

on a serious note, i have just received an invoice for next years membership and i am a tad concerned that the greenkeeper is a little over precious with the course.
not worth paying green fees when you only get to play the 'summer' course 26 weeks of the year

It's a balance mate, I play on a course where the greens get hammered all year round and aren't that good to start with. So, yes, disappointing when you can't play some weekends but hopefully the course is in good nick the rest of the year.

I don't know? these city types don't know they are born!

Here is the West country I had to get up at 3:00 am, light fires under the cows udders to thaw them before showing them a picture of the mother-in -law to stampede them into the milking sheds, then warmed up my hands by checking the sheep for breached lambs. 6:00 am a nice bowl of mango worzel soup and a battery acid chaser then off the the course at 7:00.

Most fairways were swimmable and I managed in less breast strokes than normal, putting was a little off today due to leaving my snorkel at home. Bloody wind generator on the buggy developed a fault so that the outboard failed on the 12th.

Roll on the summer, at least I wont have to light those fires

We have three dams on our course all fairly full but we use bore water. One course close to me has had to stop watering because their bore has now hit salt (water table too low). We are on level 3 water restrictions which means we can only water our gardens on one specfic time for three hours between 5pm and 8pm. We can only water by hand using trigger nozzles so my front lawn died two months ago and we have just finished our last heatwave which lastest fifteen days where the temperature did not drop below 36 degrees celsius (six of those days were above 40 degrees celsius).
