  • Targets for 2004 ? Anybody ?

I started 4 years ago, at age 28, l-a-t-e starter. Last year was my first full year with a Handicap(GHIN)...I came down from a 20 to a 14 by end of the year. I am thrilled at the results. But want to set a target to get down to 9 or better by end of this year. Do-able ? What are your thoughts ? Any tips/experiences lowering handicap appriciated.

By the way what are your goals ?

    My goals for 04:
Jump out of the bushes and get either the number 6 varsity spot or number 1 JV spot, varsity prefered.

How do I plan on doing this?

2 Thanks to summer vacation, playing 36 holes everyday.

Getting from a 14 handicap down to a 9 in one season is definitely doable, if you work extremely hard at it. I was a 16 - 18 handicap for the longest time (with REALLY bad habbits) and decided I wanted to be better. I reworked my swing during the offseason and got as high as a 22 handicap by early summer. As I got more comfortable with the new swing I dropped down to a 16 by the end of the year. I changed a few more things in my swing the following year I brought my handicap down to a 9. Last year I went through my final changes to my swing and I was down to a 6 at one point, but fell back to a 9 by year end. This year I am going to work at getting back down to a 6. With no swing or grip changes to implement into my game I should be able to accomplish that. My major areas to work on now that my swing is fundamentally sound is my putting from 15 to 30 feet. By being able to either sink those or leave them as a tap in consistantly I should be able to knock off 2 or 3 strokes a round.

      Good luck in 2004 everybody!!!

My target is to play lots more Competitions, lots of different people and lots and lots more golf than last year. If the wife will let me that is! Have a good season everyone.

          Targets for 2004

I find the trouble is not getting down to single figures, its staying there.

One bad partner, two bad holes, missed puts, poor chips especially early in the season when the grass has not grow to its full potential and the fairways are still a bit damp giving no roll of the back tees.

Beware of the early season blues!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want to get down to single figures then the only way is putting and chipping and bunker play.
          Perfect these and your away!!!!!!!

If you have a good round its always because you chip and put well.

Good luck for the new season.

          Ian.

            Late starter at 28?

I have been playing for only 13 months now and will be 44 this year.

I could kick myself for not playing years ago when I think of all the great days of golf I have lost out on!
