  • Equipment Rant!!

I have been playing a little less than two years and I use dunlop irons custom made with true temper steel shafts. I hvae a driver, 3 wood, 18 hybrid made by ram golf. I am sick of people looking at my bag and saying "you need good equipment". My response is usually a polite "I have not been playing that long and you can't buy a golf game" If they are bad I want to say "yeah you have Callaway or Taylormade clubs and you still suck". Sometimes people will say it after a bad shot. Does anyone else here feel it appropriate to focus on another playing partner's equipment so much especially if it is negative?

    hi
i have a set of Dunlop clubs i keep down at my caravan and i find there good clubs. there not as forgiving as my pings and i do feel better playing with my Pings but i can get a good few rounds of golf when on holiday with out filling my car with my first set of clubs.
i got the Dunlop clubs as they were cheep but the looked well made and not half as bad as there often made out to be.
if you have confidence using Dunlop clubs and Ram then dont take any notice of your playing partners.
i have my old set of Ping K1s in the shed i was going to change with the dunlop irons but have not done it yet and might never get round to it with the amount of bags the wife takes on holiday.
    cheers
    bill

If they suit you and are fit for purpose then what the heck!

I would agree, that unless you know someone real well (then it is more of jokes or discussion on when you decide to upgrade i.e I think this is what I would do), it seems tacky to make negative comments on someones equipment.

On the other hand a lot of golfers have a belief that if it does not say TaylorMade, Callaway ... it is junk.

You've got to look for the positive Chris. i have old TopFlite XL2000 irons, Benross hybrids, 4W and Driver; I doubt if the whole lot cost me as much as the new top end OEM driver some of the players I can beat use
Next just keep quiet until you get back to the bar victorious and then ask them if they'd like to try your Dunlops.

There needs to be "golf bag stickers" like "bumper stickers".

            "My other clubs are Honmas"

"Honmas on lay away ... forever."

"Callaways hit further ... into the woods."

Read my sig. "If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it."

Honestly, if they're not playing max-cor woods and thin-faced irons, then what they're playing is no better.

That one gave me a giggle!

I have some nice ping gear, but its all 2nd hand. I cant imagine ever spending £600 or more on a set of golf clubs.

Maybe for my 40th I will get some expensive fitted clubs, thats what all my golf buddies are doing! Maybe by then I will be good enough to justify them!

                  Another golf myth exposed!

The myth "only good players need their clubs fit".

The truth: "Beginners enjoy a more visible benefit to fitted clubs than experienced players".

For a guy shooting in the 70's, proper-fitting equipment is largely a psychological boost, with some aid to the physical side. It won't get him shooting in the 60's automatically, but properly fit will certainly remove the equipment and often the physical side of the barrier, allowing him or her to reach their full scoring potential.

For the guy struggling to break 100, proper-fitting equipment can do wonders to their score - the right weight and length with proper loft and appropriate wedges can stop all sorts of issues. As a TLT guy, I also believe that a TLT set makes learning the swing easier - you have one address position and one constant ball position - building your swing around a proper golf posture.

It's never too late to get your clubs fit.

                    hi
would just like to add to lowpost comment.
finding the right head and shaft is more likely if fitted than getting clubs of the shelf.
if a 20 handicaper then finding the right forgiving head and the right shaft could help so much in your ball striking and also help you grove that swing.
you could find cheep heads and shafts if fitted will work better that some of the expensive brands taken off the shelf unless your the right hight,
"5.10 to 6 foot" and have the right body shape that most clubs are made for.
                    cheers
