Re: golf ball spin and compression
There was a fairly long thread on here recently regarding this subject. My opinion is that it is impossible to compress the ball between the clubface and ground, if anyone can show me this happening I will eat my headcoverJust consider a ball being hit off a tee.

Re: golf ball spin and compression
hi
i was reading some post from callaway about compression of there balls on at test robot. and they found that you could have less compression with a really fast swing as your swing slows quicker through impact. (there talking about amateurs and not pros.)
the took a player with a 112 mph swing speed and found at impact his swing speed dropped to 96 mph as the head made contact with the ball.
then they had a 90 mph swing speed and he only dropped to 83 mph and the found that the slower swing speed compressed the ball more and got a true flight and distance and the distance of the faster swing speed was longer but not by as much as you would think for a swing off 112 mph and the faster swing had more variation of distance.
there conclusion was the more you compress the ball onto the cub face at impact the better the flight and you would hit the same distance each time and more research should be made into speed loss at impact.
the also said the 90 compression balls worked better with the people that had the biggest difference in there swing speed at impact and overall the 90 was a better ball for most handicap players and the 100 compression balls also worked good if there little difference at impact in your swing speed.
i tried using 90 and 100 balls and did not see any difference but the 90 balls did feel better of the club face.
if you have a fast swing then maybe try a softer ball for more distance and compression.
cheers
bill
