  • Slaves at Ryder cup

    hi
just read that Hunter Mahan said that, " in the Ryder cup you had to go to dinners every night and big dinners. as players that the last thing you want and we want to prepare ourself. your just slaves that week."
he also went onto say that some players would soon be saying they did not want to play in this anymore.

seems strange for a player never to play in the Ryder cup to come out with suck an attack on it.
    cheers

Well on the positive he seemed to indicate he would rather be preparing for the matches rather then attending big dinner parties. That is at least something.

Plus nobody is forcing you to eat. Just order a salad and relax Hunter.

        Hi Greg
i have always liked Hunter but find it a surprising comment when he has yet to play in a Ryder cup.
is it letting them know he does not want to be considered as he in 12th in the running so far.
        cheers

I think the sad thing, is that what he is saying is coming from a number of US players who have played the event. I think to the press there has always been a lot of talk of how important to get rest and how long a week it is obviously in private a number of them have made complaints about their schedule and attending this event and that event. As well as all of the money being made off them, while they are not recieving a dime.

Just hearing Azzinger talk on weekends, my guess is that he is going to find players who want to be there (who will prepare for the matches) and who the course suits. I would guess that if Hunter tells him that it's just the events and that he will be ready to play he might be under consideration. But otherwise he is out of consideration for a captains pick. You have too many golfers of about equal levels to choose someone who is already complaining.

But 12th is right there to make the team, I assume that since Tiger is out the top 11 go automatic.

            hi
it seems so different for what the player are saying this side of the pond and seem to be fighting to try and get in the team.

Seems to me that if the American players were winning, more often in this era of golf, we probably wouldn't be hearing comments like this. Or perhaps Mahan is letting it be known now that he does not want to play in these matches in the future. Not sure what it is like on the Euro tour, but the US tour has a different breed of golfer playing today. It's all about $$$$$ for them. Then again, I am old school and identify with the senior tour more so than the youngsters' tour. GJS

its been nailed down already, american apathy because they arent winning. i hope Mr Mahan makes it into the team, pretty sure that would be a couple of nailed on points for europe if he doesnt want to be there in the first place.

we have heard this kind of thing before from Duval before Brookline, but come the day he was strutting around with his chest puffed out even after they had cheated europe out of the match.

mind you its not like PGA tour pros to turn down a free lunch....he might be dieting???
