  • Shots out of 2" grass

Our club is having the first cut off the fairway 1" and up to 3" long grass. So, I am often just a couple of inches off the fairway near the green yet seem heavily punished. The reason being is that I do not know how to play these shots. I either come out short of the green or shoot miles past it. Can anyone give me any suggestions on which club to use and how to play the shot please.

I'd suggest the SW so that the leading edge can cut through the grass to get you a nice clean strike.

The classic advice is to play it back in your stance so you can chop down on the ball (eliminating as much grass between your club and the ball as possible). Open the face as the grass will twist the face closed, and account for more run as the ball will not spin as much.

I agree with the previous. If half the ball is visible above the grass then it is possible to use a rescue or longer club, if the ball is deeper then use a short iron and play to get back on the fairway. Grip a little firmer, steep angle of attack, hit right through.
