  • Any tips/drills for the following problem?

Im going through a stage of golf where i have the following problems:

    Im swinging to fast
Im hitting at the ball rather than through it
My arms and hands are ahead of my body rotation leading me to a flat swing
My hands are getting trapped behind my body.

All of the above are leading me to slices, pulls thins and most of all ugly shanks!!!

Can anyone recommend a drill or drills to help me through this difficult time?

    hi
tour tempo is a book and a cd that has the swing tempo's of the top players. there is three main tempos that top players use and if you can get the tempo that works for you then you will swing at the right speed all the time and with every club.
with swinging at the ball and not swinging through it, try putting a tee peg down two to three inches in front of the ball and swing at the tee peg and just let the ball get in the way.
Jack Nicklaus use to pick a spot 2 or 3 inches in front of the ball and that was his target. it worked for him.
i found it was a good way to get you to swing through on your drives too.
    cheers

You could try this swing method:

Sounds like you’re out of sync. Work some half swings keeping your spine angle and making sure to take the club back with the shoulders, not just the arms. Keep the club in front of your chest. Turn back though the ball with the body and get your right hip and your hands coming into impact together. Keep turning through. Do not flip the wrists. Keep the left wrist leading and firm and the right wrist a bit cupped through impact. Think like your hitting the ball with your body more than your arms and hands.

Read Greg’s "Right Hand Drill". Now that I read MY post, he might think I ripped him off. My point is more to get "connected".....the arms and the body synced up. Then you can apply the concept to your swing.

That makes sense, my link will explain how to achieve all those things.

The two drills i found best help me with my tempo is first- now this is strange and a little embrassing but while at address i simply hum out loud. now the trick is to make your practice swings and your normal swings but keep the note the same throughout the swing if it changes then your tempo is out. the next step is once you can complete the above, to keep the same tempo simply add a tune in your head. now all thats left is to ditch the humming and keep the tune. as for your hands getting stuck behind you i found this happened to me when i used to drive my hips to quickly from the top of the backswing. by the time i got to the impact position my hips where almost facing the target. you should try to not let your hips get past paralle with the target. remember lag is good thing dont lose it.
