  • Disqualified from summer singles Quater final

    Hi All,

I have today been informed I have been DQ from the summer singles. Which should have been played by 25/08/08. The reason for DQ was, I apparantly had not made sufficient attempts to contact our commitee to inform them I couldnt play as my opponent was away that weekend and was working on Monday. I did attempt to contact the commitee on the monday, but they were not available, as I wanted to inform them my opponent could not make the date and therefore we would be playing on Tuesday this week.
As I could not contact them yesterday, I called this Morning to leave them a message advising we would be playing tuesday, assuming a couple of days extension would be fine.

The commitee called me tonight and advised me they were DQ me as I hadn't made sufficient attemps to notify them, and that they needed to be consistent with the deadlines set for comps. I did albeit over the phone remind them that Iam aware they have given extensions to other players in the past, this also included myself in the winter league final as our opopnemnts were away on holiday the week of the deadline. an extension was awarded for this. ( double standards ). I think they have forgotten this.

Theire reply to me, over the phone was oh we dont remeber ever giving any extensions out, I havn't yet reminded them of the time we were allowed a extension for the winter league final. but did remind them of a extension allowed to a friend of mine who will vouch for this. they said the dont remember Ha Ha. They also took delight in reminding me there was really nowhere I could go with this as the Sub Commitee had made the descision and that was that.I told them I was not happy with the descision and that I would call round tommorow to discuss further.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Disqualified from summer singles Quater final

Comp's committees and the golf club heirachy in general are a bunch of archaic self important hackers who seem to revel in this level of power within the club.

Got DQ'd myself along with my mate from a final the other year. We didn't realise the day of finals day fell in with a holiday we were taking. You don't really look for these things until you're well into the draw. We got bombed out even though we were honest with them about the mistake. They seemed to hold our finals day as some last day of the Open type thing!

We got a meeting with the Capt. and President to discuss it and they threw it back at the comps committee for a decision and vote. Apparently members threatened to resign from the committee if disciplinary measures weren't taken against us for bringing the comp and club into disrepute (I ask you!!). Snotty letters from the comps sec (handicap of 28, swing like a drunk donkey) saying we were lucky to be still able to play in comps as the vote had been very close as to whether to bar us from comps for a year (I ask you!! again!)

We weren't even awarded runners-up spot.

To sum up mate I would kick up a disciplined and courteous fuss. Don't start ranting and raving. Get a meeting with the Capt. Pres. whoever and point out the contradictions. Comps committees in my experience are a closed shop, who bend the rules as they like. You know that vote I was on about well it didn't take place, a bloke who's on the com said so.

Don't let them get away with it. Oh and if you get thrown out......... I was only advising

      Thankyou for your response.
I have spoken with our Comps Chairman,he has informed me they will discuss this further. He did tell me not to hold my breath though.

I will let you know the final decision. probably wont change much though.

Good luck mate. Get a meeting with the Captain though because it would be extrememly un-Captain like to wash his hands of it, and put plenty around the clubhouse too. You pay your membership don't get ridden all over.

I don't know if it's come across but I've no real time for comps committee's...................................

So someone is being handed the trophy without playing in a final? Pathetic.

Reminds me of an incident in my own club.
A friend of mine had the best score in a vpar fourball comp that was also a qualifier for the club fourball comp.
The day after their names were not listed as either the winners or as being in the draw for the matches.
They rightly complained to the comp committee who discovered that they had "missed" their card and that it was a valid score.
They were then offered the chance to play in a pre-match with the people who had qualified last because (wait for it..) "this is what happened the last time, so there is precedent"
I mean have you ever heard such bull. Basically we made a balls of it before, so we are going to keep on making a balls of it in future!

A camel is a horse designed by a committee.

                Hmmm,

So you don't like the commitee then....!!!!

I am assuming you have already had at least a month to arrange this match, not just the deadline weekend?

People do tend to ignore matchplay events etc until the very last week then try to cramp them in, only to find the guy you are 'resposible' for ringing is on holiday, and of course he's laughing because it was up to you to arrange the match not him, he has probably put his holidays down on the board to avoid DQ.

This is what happends at my club anyway.

I suspect this will be the commitee line, there are many rules in Golf that appear very harsh, but none more harsh than thoses caused by yourself.

Having been DQ myself for the same reason, I concluded it was my fault for not arranging the match earlier, we did have at least a month, not sure with your case so don't shout at me.

                Ian. (Former Commitee Member).
