New Driver, difference?

    New Driver, difference?

    I've been using a Cleveland Launcher, senior shaft 11.5 degree driver for the past couple of years, I hit it pretty nice (average 240 in flight and roll) but would like to give another driver a shot and maybe get a bit more distance. ( I know, we're all always looking for something better)

    I'm considering purchasing a Taylormade burner and have a chance to purchase a new burner for a $129. brand new. It also is a senior shaft and the loft is 13 degree's. I like the 11.5 degree's in my current driver but my question is, will the 1.5 more degree's in this new driver make that much difference?

    There are a lot of other variables going into the ball flight. Flex points of the shafts, types of shafts, the actual flex of the shaft (just because their both seniors does not mean they will be the same).

    So it is hard to answer you question. But a 1.5 more degrees is a pretty good jump. 13 degrees is the same loft of a strong 3 wood. If your happy with your ball flight etc I doubt I would make that big of jump w/o hitting the club first.

      Numbers help. But at 240 carry and roll, I think that more loft would be helpful.

        Also be aware that the 13 degree taylormade burner has a 2 degree closed face. If your current driver has a square face then you may have difficulty adjusting. Many of the club makers put a closed face on their drivers to correct the most common problem that beginner golfers have which is a slice. The burner is considered their entry line for high handicap golfers. Just something to be aware of.

          When you say a closed face do you mean an off set for a draw? I maybe incorrect but I believe the Burner comes in two types one for draw and one that is neutral. The particular burner I was going to purchase was a neutral.

            Don't confuse closed with offset (although they both work to achieve a similar goal).

            Closed means the face naturally points to the hook side of the course. Offset means the leading edge is set back from the shaft to help trajectory and also to help give the face time to close.

            However, most golfers defeat a closed face by rolling it back to square - and then complain that a closed face driver doesn't help!

              Ok I purchased the driver and at first I tried hitting it the same as my Launcher 11.5 driver and the results were that it went higher but didnt get much more length, actually the length was about the same. But after practicing and playing a few rounds I moved the ball back one ball length in my stance, lowered the ball on the tee and put my hands a bit in front of the ball and my drives actually improved. The ball didn't launch as high off the tee and my longest drive was 275 (I admit a bit wind aided) but I also hit four drives over 260 all of which were not wind aided.

              I'm pretty happy with the driver and think I would probably get even more length with a lower lofted driver but hey, I wont even go there right now, I'll just be happy with this driver for a while.

                Oh and I might add that with the lighter shaft, my swing speed went from the mid 90's to an average of 99 to 101

                  90mph should give you 250 carry. 100mph should give you 275 carry. 110 should give you 300 carry. All with optimal launch conditions of course. Find out what those are, find the club that gives you these, buy that club.

                    Since my last post and about 6 more rounds and a lot of range practice, I've hit over 270 several times. my last round I shot a 82 an had three drives over 270. I'm thrilled with the driver and how I'm hitting it, I've never hit as far before with my old Launcher. Several people told my the 13 degrees was way to much loft and maybe it is and maybe I'd be hitting further with a less lofted driver but i'm pretty happy right now.
