  • Dailing in the Grip!

well well, maybe i have mutant hands. i have looked at the books and the drawings and tried to copy them. after about three months i decided to start all over. first got a couple of buckets of balls. then started to purposely hit with a weak grip, w to driver. results was slice, slice and slice. so then i move my thumb over to what i believed was the nuetral grip, results, a little better, about 80% slice the rest straight, nothing to the left, couldnt draw a shot at all. driver to 5 i all sliced, lower irons just a little slice. so next i turned the thumb back a little more about 1 oclock on the handle, less slice up to driver, but still there, i noticed that when i tried to rotate my wrists to the right at addrssed there was still a lot of room to play with. so then i set my thumb to two oclock. whoa! can really hook this if not careful. very difficult to slice, unless ya fall back on the right or back foot. lob, to 5I very straight, 4 and 3 iron, slight slice unless the hands release, then straight as an arrow.

tried to dail all the way to the right till i couldnt address the ball without a closed face and it was too sensative to hooking.

i am 6 1, have short legs, long body and short arms.

my fingers thumb and fore finger dont form a vee like others do to too many wrinkles.

You should comfortably be able to achieve a neutral grip unless the clubs grips are to large for you,to test this grip the club with the left hand as described by your books then the 2 large fingers should just be able to touch your palm from right round the club,if they cannot the shafts are to fat for your hands,if you are able to touch a lot of your palm then the shafts are to thin.

I always think as long as the back of each hands faces square to target do not fight your fingers with the V"s it just causes anxiety in the swing, just relax and try to get the hands square to target as possible.
