  • Downswing help

Hi, does any one no any drills for limiting the hip movement at the start of the downswing. I am shifting them to much, getting them ahead of the ball meaning i sometimes flick at the ball. My hips are getting ahead and i just want the hands to start the downswing to get behind the ball at impact.

    Thanks

    Richie,

If you put an old shaft in the ground next to you forward foot and angle it back toward your hip this is your forward movement limit. On the downswing, the first move brings forward hip to the shaft but never turns backward in a twisting motion. Forward hip to the shaft, rear hip comes in line to face the target.

Never start the downswing with your hands. You'll completely throw your swing out of position, lose power and decrease accuracy.

Check out Ben Hogan's book. He provides an excellent analysis related to this topic. I think it's the best golf book ever. Simple, yet precise. Alot of people think Hogan had the best swing of all time.
