  • Hitting the Ball into the Ground with the Driver

Hello - Could anyone explain to me what would cause someone to hit the ball into the ground using the driver? I would swing and the ball would go 15-20 yards, hit the ground and then slice. Any suggestions?

This is often caused by hitting the ball very low on the driver face and ducking the ball into the ground. The cause can be raising your spine angle, teeing the ball too high or catching the ball too much on the upswing.

      As Brian says.

As for hitting the ball low on the clubface and catching the ball too much on the upswing, another cause may be the clubhead is coming into impact ahead of the hands (i.e. flipping, the wrists breaking down), perhaps in an effort to lift the ball into the air. The more you top the ball, the more you will be inclined to try even harder to lift the ball into the air, and exasperate the condition. There are videos on you tube which show flipping, which may give you something you can relate to.

The hands should lead the clubhead in the downswing and the final release to impact should have the clubhead and hands more or less in line, and the clubhead going through the impact zone more level.
