      Re: Bunker/Rake Etiquette

I suppose it was the assumption that green fee players have no idea of etiquette or any ability to play the game that set me off – and I do apologise for having a go at you.

As a regular 2-fore-1 user I can get out of fairway bunkers well enough and quite often from greenside bunkers on the 2nd attempt and if I get out first time I’m usually so pleased that I rake away like mad.

Seriously though in my experience its usually the 4-ball of successful (that’s how they afford the paunches) retired businessmen* each playing with the members they also know from the Chamber of Commerce and the Lodge that need the lessons in etiquette, playing skills and just plain ordinary general manners.

As I’ve mentioned before I’ve had some dreadful experiences of clubs who love the green fee money but hate the idea of visitors; I think you hit a raw nerve and I over reacted.

      Apologies again.

      *Brian excepted ofcourse.

        No worries!

Our club was semi-private until 18 months - 2 years ago. It was very well looked after and you could only play it if you a guest of a member.

Now the chav's have turned up, leave gaping holes in the greens and take the rakes home to bolster their garden tool box.

I know there's plenty of pay and play guys n gals that know how to look after stuff, but on the evidence of my club, pay and play = more money, but poorer treatment of the course. Which pees off us members something cronic.

Yes, there are two sides to every story. As well as the bad experiences I've been to clubs (take a bow, Cranleigh to name but one) where the members and staff couldn't have been friendlier if we had been members. Likewise some visitors, coughs modestly, are well behaved. Seems you're getting a bum deal.

I take it that as members you don't actually own the club then? and aren't in a position to change policy at an AGM? Ofcourse if enough of you threatened to leave at the next renewal that might have an effect.

Hmmm! Does that mean apologies excepted for Brian only? Or: Am I considered a Rotary, Chamber, Masonic, Vegetarian Round table, Lesbians against fox hunting, Hang em and whip em, blame the parents, Mount a machine gun at Ashford, Skin head protestant Hells angel, Old fart bunker committee chairman, Ex-Chief executive dogs Body Biker. Or What

Now Brian you may well be all of the above but on the course I'm sure that you are the epitome of manners, demonstrate outstanding etiquette and get out of bunkers first time before raking them smoother than a baby's bottom. which is why, ofcourse, you were being excepted from the criticism of recently retired businessmen.
