  • change of shaft - going longer

hey just curious to those that will know.

if i changed my drivers shaft 1 or 2 inches in length will it be incredably hard to hit the ball.. and if i can hit it successfully how much extra distance would i be looking at.

    is it worth the risk.

FYI. been playing for 4yrs. hitting off 13HC

    Hi Aussiegolfboy,

It should go farther, all things being equal, because of the extra arc and centrifugal force. But if there is a slight off center impact, that may be negated. 1" is not much, but 2' will be noticeable.

There was a long drive competitor, Winchester, who used a 52" I believe, but he only had to get one good one in the grid to count. He was a slightly built guy. He was barely able to keep up with the contenders.

Tiger used to use a shorter than average length, as does Anthony Kim now by virtue of his choking down.

The accuracy will likely suffer, though it might depend on the individual.

The head will feel heavier. The swing would be flatter so you will have to compensate. I have to believe that your swing will change somewhat, perhaps slower upper body swing to start to generate the build-up of speed?
