Re: lower handicap
hi
work on your short game till your hitting the shots in your sleep. then work on the recovery shots. ie out of the rough.
take notes of every round and see where you lost shots and work out why.
often you lose two shots a round down to bad judgment! mostly in tying to hit shots you would not make 5 times out off 10, you really have to break down your game and see what holes cost you shots. if your playing off 10 then you will play 10 or 11 holes of par and two or three holes under par but have two holes that cost you shots, work on getting rid of the two bad holes every round and you be down to about 8 or 7 in no time.
then is down to hard work in tuning your swing.
all the best

Re: lower handicap
Average? 25.7 putts per round? And your handicap's 10.7? That putting stat is 2 shots better than the PGA Tour's best and 4 putts per round better than the tour average!
Your long game must suck baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad!

Re: lower handicap
To be fair, tour greens are 10 putts harder then normal greens. Those comparisons are slightly off.

having played St Andrews, Carnoustie and Muirfield all a couple of times i would agree with Greg that the greens are harder to score on compared to the normal club greens. they have much more hills and borrows on them and harder to read. St Andrews you can have a 50 yard putt or longer and your lucky to get your putt with in 10 feet of the hole.
cheers

Re: lower handicap
Short game practice, and then more short game practice. Practice alot of the harder shots that your practice area will allow, such as uneven lies, bad lies, and bunkers. Spend more time assessing the shot at hand. Focus more on the spot where you want the ball to land on the green to ensure a better roll to the pin. Most folks focus on the pin during their short game shots, which causes them too much grief. Keep up with your putting practice, again spending some time on practicing the tougher putts. If you don't already have one, add a flop shot to swing selection. Then, after all this make sure you leave some practice time for your long game. GJS

Re: lower handicap
wow sorry i hit the wrong button while typing to fast....its supposed to 35.7 putts per round. i guess thats a big difference huh guys? if i had to say the weakest part of my game is accurancy off the tee. really the only thing i can hit off the tee is short irons, anything 5 iron or longer i struggle with accurancy. i think it may be a mental thing. thanks for the imput guys.

Re: lower handicap
Hi thomash,
I think you know you got the right answer from the other guys. If your short game gets better, your putts per round will lower also. (more one putts).
Stan Utley, who has the PGA record for lowest putts per 9 holes at 6, obviously had a lot of one putts and also some no putts (sinking chips).
Ted
P.S. I could also stand to work on that aspect.
