  • Golf bag help

I am having trouble loving my sunday bag.

About 2 years ago my mother in law got me a PING moonlite saunday bag at my request. I was going to use it for just that.

Unfortunately, I did not and do not love it. I like that its light but it wond remain straight except when its lying on the ground.

Can anyone help figure out what I can stick inside it so that when I go to the range or the course I don't fight my bag to keep the clubs INSIDE IT!?

    Thanks TenaciousDee

    Re: Golf bag help

    Hi tenacious,

I used to attach a fairly stiff wood dowel (1/2" - 3/4" dia.) to the top and bottom of the bag on the outside (on the handle side). To stop the bag from sliding up and down on the dowel, I cut a rabbet, so the leather thongs I used for attachment would sit in the rabbets. It would be slightly longer than the bag, so when I slung the bag opening forward, I could hold the top of the dowel and tip the bag more horizontal and under control when I walked.

I loved the bag. I used to play 54 holes a day, walking hilley courses.

      Thanks for the reply Ted,

I have considered just that (the dowel) but used a broken shaft instead. Didn't work. Since I am not into woodworking the only rabbet that I can imagine is the corners of 2 flat pieces of wood.

I understand the dowel on the inside but how does one go about not tearing up the material on the bag?

Does the dowel stick out of the bag? is there any drilling or adhesive and leather involved? (you mentioned the leather thongs in your response)

How hard was it to assemble once you got the material together?

The other thing I thought about was inserting club tubes from back in the day.

      Thanks

The rod is on the outside of the bag. You can buy the dowel at the building supply or hardware store.

I just used a knife to whittle out the grooves rabbets) in the dowel that the leather thongs (or laces as you will) will lay in and thus not slip off. I attached the middle of the length of the thong to the bag by using a heavy needle and strong nylon heavy duty "thread", like shoemaker's thread. I tie the leather thongs in the grooves.

          Hi tenacious,

I would change one thing versus the way I did it. Instead of the groove, I would drill 1'8" dia holes in the dowel, which I could fish the laces through and tie them off.

            TenaciousDee,

Wouldn't it be eaiser just to buy another bag !

I use a Mizuno weekender bag at it is brilliant.
