  • cameras for golf instruction

I have read about the new high speed cameras such as Casio EXILM Pro Ex-FH20 that can shoot some 1200 frames per second. Where I see this high frame rate most usefull is looking at the club head during impact. I don't mean watching the ball get squashed, I mean watching the face of the club and its path through impact. This will require a view from above the impact zone looking down.

The question is: Can these new cameras do that?

I have seen a bunch of videos but nothing that looks similiar to a 120 mph object striking another object.

If anyone has one of these cameras, do you have any video showing this part of the swing?

      Re: cameras for golf instruction

Shopping.com said $430 to $600, a sponsered link on Google said $419. For 1000 + frames per second, that is really low.

You WILL be able to see path through impact, but be aware, that the picture at high speed is limited to a very low resolution.

This is the CASIO Exilim EX-F1 - at appx $995

Also be aware, that unlike Digital Video cameras, you can't just set this up and film every swing. You have to activate the trigger, so basically, you need somebody to work the camera while you swing.

I was not able to find that and it is what I wanted. It is pretty much as I expected. They make it a bit difficult to vew as it seems to go by only once and you cannot stop it. I hope, and assume, that with the real camera you can get the individual images.

I was able to do alt-PrtScn and capture a copy of the 1200 fps image with the club approaching the ball. It looks like the golfer has a good swing.

I think there is a termonology difference here. I see the picture as being rather good resolution, just very small. The images "resolve" fairly small detail, but not a large number of pixels. My guess is that they have a memory bandwidth limitation in capturing and saving off that many frames per second so they limit the size of the image. That is one of the the trade offs for high speed digital photography at a low cost.

As noted, it would be difficult to impossible to get images without a second person, but that's okay. I find the images rather impressive. For the price, they are downright amazing.

              Thank you for the link.
