On Friday, after work I hit the golf club for a practice 9 as usual. And as usual they sent me to the back 9 - as if the front was reserved for the VIPS. The 10th hole is a Par 3, 205 yards from the Blue tees. I am a 15 handicapper but play from the blues on practice rounds to get more value for the money. I had been hitting the Green consistently in the last 3 weeks with anything from 5 wood to 5 Iron - depending on wind conditions - but today was different. I was going to experiment my interlock grip - for 4 years I have been reluctant to switch from the baseball grip(my natural grip). I had tried the interlock on the range for 5 days now and felt comfortable.
Just like most other times, I was alone on the Tee. I pulled my 4 iron and swung with a good tempo and saw the ball fly right at the pin take one hop before the green and then disappear...into the hole ? Yes it did hop into the hole. No witness !!!
As I approached the green and made sure the ball was no where else, I looked around to tell someone. I saw the Pro teaching one of his students. I yelled..waved my hands and pointed symbolically that the ball had dove in. He took a minute to understand it and tucking his club under his arms clapped ....but still no one saw the ball go in...
Will never golf again...never golf alone again.
