    Hi everyone
my son Conor is 15 and has a handicap of 4.6 and his dream is to develop his skills by obtaining a scholarship in america(we are from the uk) as did some of his golfing idols,Luke Donald.Paul Casey.Martin Laird, etc etc.
does anyone know how this process can be started?
i would be very grateful for any advice.

Play in local and regional amateur tournaments and play well. Become ranked. Then when college submissions comes around, pick a good one and you could be offered scholarships. Play really good and they will come to you. But I have to be honest, if you have the $$ to play the amount of tournaments needed to become ranked or noticed by Colleges, you really don't need the scholarship...but it is a nice to have.

Your plan to "get a scholarship" should not be the goal. The plan should be to practice and play as much as your finances will allow you to maintain sanity within your means.

His HDCP is good. But is this during tournament/match play (under pressure)? Or is this on your weekend rounds together? They are very different.

          Hi Greg
he gets coached by a chap called John Harrison who coaches a pro called Kenneth Ferrie now playing the European tour but lost his card last year on the pga tour.

Excellent, quality instruction was the next big step. Now it is up to him and what he can accomplish. We wish him all the luck!

Hi Derek, from a practical point of view you could try some desk research. For instance if you google '"going to university in USA" you'll get fair amount of info on the process, and if you try "inter-collegiate golf USA" you'll get to the competing institutions - their individual websites will then give scholarship (or contact) info. The good news is that at 15 Conor is young enough to work to meet the academic (SAT and SAT+) anf golfing standards.

              Good Luck.

I have a close friend who is on scholarship in Mississippi via:

                Prodreamusa.com.

As far as I can remember he contacted them, they scope you out over the phone and via questionaires. If they're interested they'll send a man over from America with a camera and video your lads golfing skills, create a profile on their website which potential scholarship-givers use to scout talent.

Hopefully, he gets picked, packs his bags and prepares to play on very long, very soft, gnarly rough edged monster courses and find out how good he really is!

                My mate loves it.
