  • Bounce angle?

I have a Ping Tour wedge 58º with a bounce angle of 13.5º. What exactly does the bounce angle mean? How is it measured? Why have different bounce angles? So many questions so many answers.

    Cheers

    Re: Bounce angle?

Bounce is measured by soling the club at address, then 'drawing' a straight linefrom the leading edge, parallel to the ground. The angle of the sole between this line and the leading edge (or from the ground to the leading edge, I suppose) is the bounce angle.

The more bounce you have, the more the club is going to resist digging - whether on the turf or sand. So low bounce clubs dig more easily and high bounce clubs will want to 'come up' much faster when they have dug.

You pick bounce based on turf type and bunker type. The firmer the turf, the lower the bounce. The firmer or coarser or more dense the sand, the lower the bounce.

        Re: Bounce angle?

Thanks a lot for your excellent replies. I now have a full understanding. According to the link I have probably bought the wrong club but it works for me and I am able to adapt to the different conditions, more or less anyway

        Thanks again
