    Re: Unplayable or Obstructed?

If a player fails to remove the flagstick for the purpose of causing his fellow competitor/opponent to incur a penalty, the player is disqualified in both match play and stroke play for a serious breach of Rule 1-2.
    See Decision 17-3/2.

The other comment I'd like to make is that if a player wishes to putt from outside the green, his ball may hit the flagstick without penalty, unless he's asked the flagstick to be attended. In that case his ball must not hit the flagstick or the attendant.

Interesting about the marking, because I felt that my ball was well off his line, but I marked it anyway to keep the peace. I didn't know before today that if he hit my ball, I could replace it.

If I'd have been him, I'd have prefferred to leave his ball in place, and another ball on the other side of the line so that if I chipped badly, it might do a billiard cannon back on line! LOL!
Note that you cannot ask someone to not mark their ball.
In fact, if somone says "do you want me to mark it?" you pretty much have to say yes as otherwise you are agreeing to leave the ball to benefit another player (which you cant do)
