  • My 300m+ drive

Ok. well before i get all the people saying i'm over estimating..... your probably right. but it was still a big drive...

So going off Distance Marker. Par5. 479m. Winter Conditions, dry greens, 5 - 10kt breeze behind my back.
Drive Came out of the middle and straight. it felt good. But it wasn't until i got up the rolling hill (up 20m to 200m from pin, down 30m the rest of the way.)and started looking for my ball at my usual distance i thought a passing by pedestrian ran on the course and stole my ball...

My playing parter advised me the ball was another 60m on the other side of the hill.

There are trees at the top of the hill which indicate a drive of approx 240m.. well i was well past them. and these are trees that indicate a good drive by anyone's standard.

I walked down to my ball, measured my distance at 160m out from the hole. took the 6i out and hit the ball 7m left of the hole. Missed the Chip in for eagle (8inches left), and subsequently 2 putted for par.

So, going off my 2nd shot at 160m left to pin from 479m hole length. i drove the ball 319m. taking away the fact i was playing off white markers and it wasn't in a comp. i could happily take off 20m and still end up with a 299m drive.

Needless to say i was preety happy with that.

(I am just being funny here....)

Did you check for scuff marks on your ball to see if it hit a sprinkler head?

tell ya what. it shocked me. the way i've been playing lately, i've been flat out hitting the ball straight and 220m.. on a good day i drive around 240 on average to 260. so to get this much extra distance....

i'm still thinking the pedestrian ran on the course and through teh ball down as it was going down left middle and ended up right middle..

but yeah, i felt the weight of the ball on the club head (always a good sign of square solid contact), and it just took off.

          Re: My 300m+ drive

google earth has confirmed it. 295m
also had a 272m drive today on a par 4 over water which takes 220m on the fly to clear water on the hard dogleg left
followed by another 260 - 270m drive on the 2nd (but this one was a bad shot per say). the shot went straight but i pulled it...somehow missed all the trees, went past the corner of another dog leg and ended up on the other fairway.

          was hitting my 3i, 210m

the next trick is being consistant.. but it seams i'm getting my game back.

Even a blind squire finds a nut some times...lol...just kidding. If you can do it once you can do it again, my guess is you just relaxed a enough to swing really smoothly, golf is an odd game, the less you try the better you do. Ever have a short shot to a green and decide to swing the larger club easy, then proceed to hit that iron further then you ever hit it in your life...happens all the time.

edit: oops wrote father instead of further...senior moment...lol

So you have not had rain in 3 months, a little dry there?

Not much Dough if your first putt is for double bogey

                    Re: My 300m+ drive

hasn't rained here, but our greens have a good supply of water. they are soft ontop, but hard underneith.. it still takes a good drive to get these distances.

if you've got google earth, try doing a search for Yeppoon Golf Club in the town on Yeppoon, Queensland, Australia and you will see our golf course.

i was actually having a social game with a mate of mine and probably because of the no pressure situation and not having to care of my final score / hole i could just let loose. kept my head down and swung, it felt really good.

as for the negative comments. your entitled to them. i was playing a social round of golf, but i am not over exagerating my lengths.

Not negative, just saying it must have been dry. That's usually when folks get unexpected lengths off the tee. If you hit 300+ all the time, we wouldn't be talking about it.lol
Congrats. now that you know you can do it, pound it off the tee every time, it's fun, it will impress your mates, and it's good for your game.

                          Re: My 300m+ drive

i usually have a great round when my drives go where i want them too. in this case, long and straight. as for hitting this length every hole. i rarely use my driver unless it's a straight Par 4, or i'm cutting corners on the course i know.

usually i just play to the corner and 2nd shot in from there. one of the short Par 4's at 287m. i usually play a 3i to about 80m out which is an easy LW in on a full swing on this hole... needless to say at 250m a creek runs before the green so i won't use my driver.

i'm playing down south at Redcliffe golf course next wednesday.. a course i haven't played in 2 years so i'm looking forward to it... it has quite a few Par 4's that run 380- 400m, so the need to hit long down there does increase.
