  • Apparently you can't believe every online review.

Ok, so I got a Ping Tisi Tec driver on Kijiji.ca. I bought it because I let a guy try my driver at the range and he managed to hit a rock and the driver is now cracked along the line where the top and bottom join. Sucks that I didn't notice it before leaving the range, but, that's how the cookie crumbles.
Anyway, onto the Ping. It's a nice looking driver and in good shape which I only paid $40 for. I would have bought it just for the shaft anyway, but the fact that it's not a VW Bug with a shaft attached really appealed to me. I am currently in the process of re-doing it as the paint had some scratches.
So, while I was in between coats of paint, I'm looking online to see some of the reviews for this driver. It was like reading a good joke book. It seems 98% of guys who have ever owned this driver had 220-250 yard drives before and miraculously pushed it up to a consistently 300+ and right down the middle every time. One guy even stated a couple times that he went from 120 yards to 280 yards. I was sitting at my computer LingMAO at these outrageous reviews and wondering how many drivers these guys have tried that they reviewed in the same way. The best part was most of these guys state that they are 20+ handicappers. With massive drives like that everytime they should be a chip and a putt from the hole and should be putting up much better scores then they are. Oh well. Let them live in their dream world I guess.

On another note, I can hardly wait to get to the range with this thing if it's really that good. I'll be bombing it 350 no problem.

    hi
the Ping Tisi teck driver was one of the best drivers about when it was relessed and most of the ping pro's used it on tour.
it was more forgiving then the drivers before it and had a lot of the tech from the Zing2 drivers used in it.
the shaft was better that the zing too.
i would thinkl it was a lot better than the drivers before it and it was clamed it was longer but only by about 5 to 10 yards at most.
what you have is a well made driver that has lasted well with the new tech that keeps comming along each year.
the new Ping g15 driver is only about 5 yards longer that the Ping TisI but it will put the ball on the fairway more often due to the new tech and it being more forgiving. the Ping I15 is not so forgiving but you can work the ball more.
both the g15 and i15 hit the ball the same distance using the ping man computer rig and that is only 5 to 10 yards longer than the older drivers they made.
thats 5 to 10 yards with a robot hitting the ball with a handicap player that changes to about 2 to 4 yards so not a big diffrence in distance but you should hit the ball cleaner with the newer tech.
most handicap golfers hitting 250/260 yards would be over the moon and hitting 300 yards each time then they should be on tour as most pros cant hit 300 yard with there tweeked drivers.
when you do get to the range post us your results so we can get a true assesment of this driver.
    cheers
    Bill

For sure. I'm just waiting for the paint to cure enough that I don't have to worry about it flaking off everytime I hit a ball.
I know it should be a good driver for me as it's a little smaller then the 460's that are prevalent now. I've just never been able to get right into the extremely large heads on drivers and hit the ball better with a small head as can be seen when I'm out there with my "rescue" driver which is a TaylorMade Burner Plus steelheaded driver that's probably between 200 and 250 cc's.
Anyway, it doesn't look like I'll get a chance to hit it this weekend as there seems to be a hurricane heading our way. Hopefully next week I'll get some golfing in and I'll let you know how it goes.

Edit: I also got this driver in a 10 degree so it should be a bit more forgiving then the other big headed drivers I've used which generally were around 8.5 to 9 degrees. Perhaps a little higher ball flight thrown in there as well. I can hardly wait to give it a go.

        hi
it should be like my zing2 driver and you should be able to hit of the fairway as the sweet spot is not high up like on the 460cc drivers.

I am so looking forward to hitting some balls with this driver. I've totally refinished it in a glossy black(leaving the face and bottom original) and put some red pinstripes where the black meets the silver of the face and bottom. I also added a couple red pinstripes from the top center of the face back over the head. Kind of reminds me of my favorite muscle car....A 68 Camaro painted jet black with red rally stripes.

I get the same feeling. I wonder about these reviews. Most of them seem totally biased. I read hell of a lot of them now before I consider buying. I still then try and test the thing myself before buying. I get on great with Ping drivers though.
