  • My woods is ruining my game

Hi im new to the site so bear with me

i am a 9 handicapper my swing spead is 107mph ish and i hit my irons likea dream the problem is i cannot hit my woods consistantly no matter what i try?
i suffer from a slice most of the time and i think the cause is i overswing and come over the top but i can never be sure as no result is ever the same.
Has anyone had a similar problem and be able to offer me advice as i have tried everything new drivers, new shafts etc and have a confidence problem with anything not an iron

    Two things you should try:
    1. Slow your swing down a little for the woods and driver. This will give you more club control and may help.

    2. 3/4 swing. Try only taking the club back so it is aimed straight up with no wrist cock and minimal body turn to start out with. This method has helped a number of people get their swing in the groove for their drivers.

      1. Make sure your swing weight of woods matches your irons.
      2. If woods are higher swing weight get lighter clubs
      3. If can not afford new clubs, reduce swing weight of current
metal woods by using sand paper to remove material from bottom
      toe area of club.
This will ruin your club for trade-in but will improve you shots.
      4. Start slow on down swing. Try to feel head weight in your hands on
back swing. If your back swing is too fast, your brain will not know where
the club head is during swing.
      5. Speed up club as hard as you can 6 inches before impact and DO NOT
      QUIT on follow through.

      6. Make sure you are not coming into the ball from an outside in path.
In other words cutting across the ball. This is the most common cause
      of slices.

Good advise by boobby on all points.

        ,

you can do this in a non-invasive manner. Add weight at or near the butt end, under the grip, in the butt of the shaft, or less effectively on the shaft just below the grip.

If you are not absolutely sure if you are swinging OTT, do the simple test. Put a shoe box or head cover a couple of inches along the "away" side of the ball, and make your swings at the range. If you are OTT, you will hit the shoe box or head cover. You can use this as a good drill to groove your swing to come from the inside, if you place the shoe box diagonally to make your swing go in that inside to out direction. Hit a few balls this way and you should see the slice disappear. In order to make this swing, you will find that the path also shallows out, which will also help your wood shots.

Another thing worth trying - especially when new ...

Not posting the same post under different topics. ;-)
