For the 2nd consecutive round I've posted a new PB. OK I know that, for many, today's 12 over 82 is nothing to write home about But for me it's especially the way it was made.

Previous "bests" were recorded with a very hot putter (26 ppr on one occasion) but today was just steady stuff, in fact including a couple of 3 putts.

More importantly, of late I've been very wayward off the tee, which doesn't matter much on this course (easy walking parkland type) but has cost me dear playing other courses with serious trouble waiting loose shots; today though I was finding the short grass off the tee most of the time.

Thanks to all those (you know who you are) who have offered help and encouragement along the way.

That's great Robin, well done for sticking at it and putting in the effort. Sub 80's here we come

Way To Go, and Kudos to you. 82s are nothing to be snubbed. It's about 15 +/- strokes better than average male golfer shoots. Plus an 82 is usually good enough to be the low round in quite a few foursomes. That and it also means breaking 80 is just down the road a piece. GJS

          More Progress!

Until Thursday all my sub 90 scores have been on my local pay and play which is short and whilst not great for pushers & slicers doesn't really punish pullers & hookers - which suits me great, the greens are also flat and easy paced. My un-achieved personal target for the last two years has been to beat bogey golf away from home.

Anyway on Thursday I visited a course where last time out I carded a 98 (29 over ) and scored 81 despite leaving a number of make able putts out there.

I know the better golfers on here are used to it but in some ways the most difficult thing was holding it together as the score built - when you par 9, 10, 11 and 12 you know its different . I only lost it once, when on the Par 5 17th having hit my best drive of the day I went for a long rescue to cut the corner and reach the green in two, no margin of error with a predictable duff and double bogey to follow. Stupid when two easy 8Is could have seen me putting for birdie and a sub 80.

The problem now is repeating it when I'm not really sure what I was doing differently - well I know I was getting off the tee well and had a playable 2nd shot on every hole but I don,t know how

            Hi Robin,

I find that pars seem to feed on themselves, you hit a few in succession and then start to expect them, which builds confidence. Standing behind the ball with a confident outlook promotes a committed shot.

              Re: Progress

Hi Brian, it would be a pretty meagre meal most rounds for my pars but I can see what you mean. The issue for me this time was controlling the adrenaline charged confidence rush - been a few holes away from (relative) "glory" before and blown up. This time just about hung on playing one shot at a time.

Red red robin....sounds like you are bop bop bopping....

Great about your golf. Keep up the good work.

I still reckon practice more of the short game when on the range.

Also practice hitting balls from divots, working the ball - basically put yourself under the pump.

                Talk soon

                  Hi Robin,

Well done. If you ever find out how you are doing it, could you bottle it and send me some. I could do with some help getting from the high to the low 80s.

                  All the best
                  Kevin

                    Kevin,

Sadly I'm back into the high 80's again so no bottle solutions available. However this time round I know that better lies ahead; I just have to stay patient and keep plugging away.
