  • Power of thought process and visualisation

    Hi Guys,
I reckon I know the answer to the following but thought I would throw it out there to see if there are any particular methods or routines that other guys use.
OK on any normal day as I step on to the T I usually have a look down the fairway and pick a spot that I think I would like my ball to finish up, so I have a start point and a finish point with no particular attention paid to the path in between, the result is haphazard to say the least. Now I consider myself to be a very educated golfer and have studied lots of the theories and the mechanics of how it is supposed to work. So the other day playing with a mate who had just handed me a 2/1 defeat I walked up to my ball on the last in the light rough and promptly announced to him to watch this as this will be a television shot, 7 iron starting out to the right with a draw landing at the front on the green and rolling up to the pin. Bugger me to quote my mate "it was like a video replay of my commentary" the ball went like a guided missile starting right and drawing landing exactly on the patch I had picked out and rolled up stopping 3' from the pin, 1 putt birdie and I thought what an easy game. To me this deliberate thought process without becoming robotic is something that I must focus on applying for every shot, I would be interested in hearing what you guys do to help keep it on the short grass and shoot low

    Cheers, Wayne

Re: Power of thought process and visualisation

Many top golfers say that they like to visualise the shot before making it, Jack Nicklaus did this.

Sorry to harp on about the 3 skills system but that promotes a lot of imagery and suggests that this will help the brain to sort out how we make the shot if we abandon swing thoughts and let it happen.
