I dont think this should conflict with your lessons. You may find this video helpful on wrist hinge and release.

Re: Wrist cock
Lags not going to increase as a result of wrist cock...
But from transition and returning the right elbow to its side...
This bring the shaft closer to the right shoulder...
Need to be more aggresive with left thigh and not turn the
hands over after impact...

......... Lag is everything to do with wrist cock and the hands turning over, my right elbow is never at my side, it points to my right hip just like your namesake Ben Hogan's did, just look at that beautiful narrow triangle. Read his book and see how he used the supination and rotation of his left wrist through impact.

Re: Wrist cock
I was actually referring to this position in the start of the downswing
as detailed in the video... Turning the hands over is surely one way to
swing a golf club but not Hogan's and Snead's preferred method...

Here's an interview with Mr Burke sorry for the lenght but towards the
18:00 mark or end he explains what Hogan has doing...

How can you move the clubhead from the open position halfway down to the closed position half way through without your hands turning over? How can you whip the club through on a larger radius than the one your hands are turning at without hands turning over? The physical kinematics dictate that this needs to happen. Make no doubt about it without this action there will be no power in your swing.Last edited by BrianW; 10-08-2009, 10:50 AM.

Re: Wrist cock
Hey there Connor.
First of all, I wouldn't worry at all about your wrist hinge. It's what we call "float loading". Essentially your wrists hinge when you make the transition from backswing to forward swing and a lot of people do it. Jack Nicklaus was a float loader, so you're not in bad company.
The hardest thing to do at your age is find out what will REALLY help you play better. So many people are going to offer you advice and you are a sponge ready to soak it all up. Again, you're not in bad company. Gary Player was renouned for listening to everything anyone ever told him.
The difference is Gary wouldn't keep it if it didn't work.
My suggestion to you is to create your own system. Figure out what works for you and stick with that. Input is good, but make sure the input makes sense to your system.
Back to your swing.
It reminds me of last years Phoenix Amateur winner. He had a very similar swing to you with an agressive release of the club. You re-hinge your wrists on the follow through which increases the clubhead speed incredibly. If we tried to change the timing of your wrist hinge in the backswing, your timing would be altered and the benefits would be lost. Over time you may be able to tweak it, but really its not necessary.
If you want something to work on, I would recommend working on your balance. Your stance is incredibly wide and your hip turn suffers because of it. You are openning up your hips with a twist instead of a proper turn. Just try tinkering with a narrower stance for a bit and see if you can get your weight onto your back foot a bit more. It will help you drive through the ball instead of twisting wrecklessly and relying on your arms to make up for it.
