    Re: hogans angle

If you're referring to the cup in the left wrist ...

it actually increases the wrist cock...

in Hogans case it retarded the turning over of his hands...

What wrist cock change are you referring to? What page is this on?

Getting better impact on the sweet spot is key. If you take the club to the top of your back swing then make as direct a strike on the back of the ball (as possible) you'll train yourself to have ample wrist cock.

You're giving the action a purpose and realizing the effects.

            Re: hogans angle

If you're takeaway is getting flat you've been starting the club head away from the ball first, then the hands and finally the arms.

Try thinking of the club face as an extension of the right palm, since (per Five Lessons) the right palm is parallel to the club face. [See page 29]

Now, stand with the club in your left arm, as if at address. Dangle your right arm in front of you. Then, press the elbow against the right hip. Now, swivel your right hand and forearm to the side, as if your lower arm were a gate and the elbow was its hinge.

Your right palm should be facing ahead of you, thumb up and your forearm should be parallel to the ground. Now, swing the club back with your left arm, shoulders and hips. Touch your right hand then swing the club back to address, (leaving your right hand in place.) Repeat... repetition is key.

The feeling is that your body must move in unison, left arm extending with the club in line, to the right hand, shoulders opening, hips doing likewise.

See how far past your right hand you can reach with your left. Extend and feel your body respond. Notice the natural coil, the pivot of the body and arc of the club?

Once you've gotten the feel for this motion return your right hand to the club and make half swings. Your club face should now reflect the positioning of your right hand. Your right hand, arm and side are in position for the strike, which ought to be solid and square.

When making swings longer than half swings your right elbow will come away from your side. The feeling is similar to the practice swings when you were extending your left hand as far past your right (gate position) hand. Think in terms of what your body is doing and trust that the club is in the right place (it must be, since your grip, stance and posture are correct?)
