    Re: golf gps devices

I have a Sky Caddie which works just fine. Only problem is I don't like the annual, and up grade fees. So, I recently purchased an "On Par GPS" which does not have any of those fees. So far so good with the "ON Par" product. One of the extras it has (that I use quite a bit) is the ability to measure the targets on the driving range I use. With that app, I will know what the distance to all the targets are, regardless of where ever the hitting stations are. I have used both and the numbers are usually the same. Plus with the "On Par" product, if I subtract the annual fee, and say one up date that I would pay using the Sky Caddie, the "On Par" product cost me less than $300

I have only seen the Sky Caddie golf gps device in action and was very impressed. I am not usually one for gadgets on the course but this is really something that can make a big difference to the better players round. When I say "better player" I mean someone who will benefit from knowing a very accurate yardage to the target.

The Sky Caddie SG5 GPS seemed very compact, quite light and a really clear screen.

I am going to be trying a few of the golf gps devices out in the coming weeks so will post some reviews.

There are probably a few other guys here who have tried them and I am sure they will reply.

      Good Luck

Another option which I use is the "GolfCard" app in my iPhone. It is the best golf app on the iPhone in my opinion. Not only does it allow the general gps stuff for the hole, it also allows you to track how far you hit the ball and all your card and stat stuff for the round. The most useful feature in the app is the stats as at the end of a round you can't be selective as to what you think went well and badly for the round.
