  • warm up & stretching exercise

    I am now still nursing a bad back strain.
    Would appreciate a simple but effective warm up and strecthing exercise before any swing practice, particularly the driver.

    I practice tai chi which helps your balance and controls your temperment. While it's not really energetic it does helps you to stretch which is always a good thing in golf.

      Golfie,

      Sorry to hyear about you injury,

      My advice would be "hit every club in the bag before the driver".

      I find the best way to warm up the swing, Take two clubs from the bag and swing them both together very slowly.

        Did the two club swing and then went for the driver almost immediately.

        Basically I am very new to golf.
        After two and half months with the irons, I managed to consistently made contact with the ball, most of the time with a fade. Naturally, I progress to the driver and of course the wood. Little did it occur to me that it would be too strenuous for the back, afterall there were never any discomfort with the irons.
        Two weeks has passed, the pain over the whole upper half of the back has gone except for a few localised area.
        Is this a common injury to beginners and as severe? But then I see many weekend golfers would tee off with the driver from cold.
        Nonetheless, for me, a hard lesson learned and experienced!

          It's not too bad for an experienced golfer who plays several time every week to swing a couple of clubs for a few minutes then tee off. Although everyone should warm up properly to be on the safe side.

          If you are a new golfer then your aches and pains may be just over hitting at the driving range, try going every night but just hit a few balls each time, it doesn't take long and it far better for your golf because you are not tired, try something different every night, grip, left arm, alignment etc etc, this way you only have one swing thought at any night.

          I would guess most injury's sustained by begginers is trying to hit the ball to hard with a tight grip i.e tight mussels.

          The best advice I every received was to hit the ball with half a swing, if you take a picture of your half swing you may find it's a full one.
