    Search for replacement ball

    I eventually found the perfect ball for me. It was Callaway BigBertha Red. But then, they stopped producing it. After contacting them, they told me that the Diablo was the equivalent. Well, it isn't. The Big Bertha was much better around and on the green as you could hit it more firmly. I tried the other Callaways too. To no avail. Has anyone got a suggestion of a similar ball please? I tried pro v1 but not for me.

    give top flite T a go there made by Callaway now and it a good ball for the price.

          Try the TopFlite D2 Feel. Surprisingly soft around the green.

          The low end Srixons - the AD333 and the Soft Feel - are also excellent.

                the "T" has a Titanium core! I think it a rubber core in the "D"

                  thanks. also i notice you use a broomhandle putter. i must be the worst putter in the game! what advantages would you think you get from this type of putter?

                    first i do not use it in the normal way?
                    i set up with both feet to the left of the hole and my body facing the target and i have the shaft of the putter run my my right arm from my hand to my shoulder. i put my left hand across my chest and grip the top of the putter to my shoulder and then all i do is swing my right arm back and forward.
                    if you have Dave Pelz book! the putting bible there is a short chapter about this type of swing and Dave Plez said it was the best putting stroke he had ever seen. and yes it is legal.
                    i putted with a Ping Pal putter for about 20 years and putting was allways the weak part of my game but not now, i would say i was a realy good putter of the ball now and seem to judge distance much better looking at the hole all through the swing.

                      The best suggestion I have is to follow the science and research that's available. If you sign up to http://www.golfballselector.com/ for a small fee you can enter a whole host of information about your golf swing and playing tendencies and they'll give you a list of most suitable golf balls.

                      They also have some key stats and manufacturer preferences for each golf ball.

                      They might be a commercial website but unquestionably good!

                        I had completely forgotten about golfballselector.com

                        I used it last year, and enjoyed the balls they suggested (Srixon Zur and Wilson Zip)

                        It may be worth $30 USD to try it out.

                          My Pro shop only had the Srixon 333. It went very well. Will try the others when I can see them.

                            LOL! Why, thank you very much for the welcome. It's been a little while hasn't it!? I actually used golfballselector last week (after Greg's invite to join the Golf Day) to find a new golf ball and ended up with the Nike Platinum or the new Srixon Z-Star. Haven't tried any of them (yet).

                            I haven't at all in the last 18+ months because I was playing so badly I hated playing. I found some Callaway HX's I had stashed away but thought I made start out by using Pinnacle something or other ... I had no idea how I'd play after such a long lay-off and may spend more time walking in the trees and rough.

                            I played 9 holes today and my driving and long irons were AWFUL and scored level par 36 but trust me, it wasn't pretty !!! Thank goodness for short par 4s.

                            Can I please join the choppers & hackers now!? I need some lessons and quickly too!!
