  • Grip problem

    Hi Guys,

The problem I am having is that my glove is wearing out in the heel of the hand on the little finger side. A full leather glove will last approx 10-15 games and then it is worn through. I have gotten all sorts of advice about grip pressure and swing pattern and nothing has changed the problem.

So I wanted to get everyones general opinion as to wether the thickness on the grip could be at fault. I do have short fingers generally and particularly the little finger. My grips currently were fitted with 2 wraps under the grip(supposedly fitted to my hand size). Will getting rid of the wraps under the grips make a difference to the glove problem?

    Hi,

Glove wear can often be attributed to the grip moving in your hand, this can be due to the way you hold the club or having too small grips.

If you are happy that you are placing your hands correctly on the grip then check that the tips of last three fingers on your left hand just lightly touch your palm when you hold the club.

      Thanks for the reply Brian.

The middle finger does touch, the next misses by 3-4mm and the little finger misses by 6-7mm.

So can the grip be too big and still cause the same wear pattern?

Ideally your middle and third finger tips should just touch the palm when gripped lightly. If the grip is too large it may restrict you releasing your wrists and favour an open clubface.

Sometimes wear in the glove heel can be due to the way you place your right hand on the grip. You should hold the club more in the fingers of the right hand, this allows you to create a snug gap free grip with the thumb and fingers of the left hand. If the right hand grips the club more in the right heel then it can cause a loose grip with gaps in the left hand which allows for the shaft to move and create a wear pattern.

I like to use the analogy of holding the club like an umbrella in the left hand and like a shopping bag in the right.

        I hope this helps you.

          Thanks Brian.

That definitely helps. I think I'll be getting my grips changed this week.

I'll let you know how it works out in a couple of weeks.

A lot of things can happen to make a slice. Slices are one of the hardest issues golfers have fixing. Golf is hard because you want to have a lot of power behind your golf swing.
