  • Always in pain

    Hey guys hows it going
I have a couple of questions. After years of abusing my body through (football early years), weight traing (powerlifting), 30 years of working in the construction field (turning 55 this May) and I have a 16 year old son who I think is letting me beat him once and a while on the basketball court because he feels bad for his old man.
Now I have some nasty joint pain to say the least. Also torn menscus left knee, torn rotator cuff right shoulder and some real nasty hip pain lately, right hip. Now I love golf and 2 out of the 3 do not bother my ablitity to play except the hip. They have supplements out there that they say "promotes joint health" and has Glucosamine and chondroitin in it. Have any of you tried them and what have been the results. I know that and operation could help the knee and shoulder but with 6 to 8 weeks down time for both (doctor says knee would have to be replaced and at least that long for a torn rotator cuff) I just don't have the ability to do this because of work. Any suggestion would be greatly apprecitioned Sorry about the rambling on.
    Thanks
    Dant

    Re: Always in pain

I've been a dummy and have played basketball with 100lbs extra compared to my competitive days - my knees would cry a little in my competitive days (nothing a little anti-inflammatory and some ice wouldn't fix) but now they scream at me after ball. I've found that taking glucosamine has helped some - the noise is down to crying again, but it takes a little more anti-inflammatory and a little more ice, it seems.

I was prescribed some Pilates classes by my Doctor when I had bad back problems, these problems resulted in some bad back, neck and hip pain which was caused by trapped nerves in the spine. The Pilate's has helped by strengthening certain muscle groups that supported problem areas. Some years later I am in much less pain.

Cortisone works for a torn rotator cuff, I know.

Alleve works for the knees (I have bone on bone arthritis in both knees).

        Don't know about the hip.

This might sound crazy but this is not the first time this has happen. I live in Rhode Island and we have been having our share of snow and rain. But when it is just rain with the cold and dampness the pain really does get intense. Now today it is cold but sunny and the pain isn't as bad. Any of you guys have this with cold and damp rainy weather. Give me the warm days of spring and summer.
