I began playing golf seriously about a month ago (new girlfriends dad is from scotland....I didnt really have a choice.) I was pretty decent with my irons, I could hit them fairly well, but the driver vexed me mightily. I couldnt get it off the ground. I would either top it fiercly, pop it up off the toe, or snap hook it three fairways over.
Well I read everything I could on every website I could, tryed to filter it all and was a little successfull. On average I would probably hit 2 fairways out of 18. Then the amazing thing happened. I have played five rounds in the past five days and I slowly began hitting a few more in the fairway. Then after a round today I went to the driving range. I tried to relax myself and just swing the club.
I went through several slow practices doing the things I was taught. Then I stepped up and duck hooked about a dozen. Then it just happened, I tried something a little different. It felt very awkward at first, the feeling of my body going before my arms but the result was spectacular. Striaght with a little draw over the 250 sign. I hit a few more and was consistently hitting them striaght. After hitting about 50 more I was landing them near the 300 yard marker everytime, dead on target. The funny thing was, my arms werent getting tired. My shoulders were begining to ache. It was an ache in a muscle I had never felt before. I must say it was amazing, the feeling of not actually swinging at the ball. It was like my body was hitting the ball for me. The club was always in the right place for good contact, like I never had to adjust my hands. My shoulders just pulled them through. The feeling of hearing the *PING* when I hit the sweet spot was like no other. Id like to thank all the instructors here. Their advice was what got me where I am. I am truly excited for golf now and I thank you all.
