  • The ortodox Grip

I have recently decided to change my grip, I used the overlap for the past 5 years,
When i decided to change the grip i looked up some sites n stuff for info and found out that my grip that i thought was good actually disastrous. So the new grip is an interlock grip I'm pretty sure that i have the left hand in the correct position but for the right hand it is very uncomfortable and very hard for me to swing with confidence, Or swing without concentrating on the grip. So my main question is where on my right hand should i feel my left thumb? Shound it be on the palm of my hand between that muscle under the thumb or should my right hand not cover the left thumb at all - Mabye I should be feeling the left thumb at the side of my right hand under the little finger. If anyone has some solid input i really would appreciate it.
    Thanks

    Re: The ortodox Grip

    Hi Graham,

Your right hand should not touch your left thumb. Well, okay - a little touch with the right hand finger tips and palm side of the knuckles, but nothing touching the top of your thumb. If you are gripping properly now (grip running through the middle joints of your fingers) you should have little to no contact with your left thumb. If you still have excessive contact with your left thumb to your right hand, make sure that your grips are the proper size. If you have large hands, standard size grips are WAY too small. If this is the case, get your clubs regripped to oversized grips (contact your local pro shop) and get them properly sized for your hand. You will notice a HUGE difference.

      Hi,
      Thanks for the reply,
I still having trouble. I'll try to explain mysely more clearly
Can you try this - Put you right hand out in front of you about chest height just so you get a clear view of the hand , Now touch the tips of your thumb and little finger together, Now if you look at the palm of your hand you will notce that you created a v shape, with the pointy end of the V near your wrist. well thats seems to be the part of the have that covers the left thumb,On my New "correct ???" Grip Although you are correct in saying that the tips of my right middle 2 fingersfingers touch my thumb also. Does any of this make sense. I know i said earlier "I'll try to explain mysely more clearly" Sorry if i don't

        Re: The ortodox Grip

I understand what you are talking about. The bottom of the "V" should touch the 2nd thumb joint. If your grip is running through your right hand properly (middle of the top two joints) there is no possible way for the portion of your right hand you described to touch your left thumb anywhere more towards the tip of your thumb than that. It sounds like your grip is running along the bottom joint and palm side of your knuckles. This will create too much grip pressure and in turn creates tense forearm muscles which leads to less forearm rotation through impact resulting in a loss of distance and control.
