    Re: Shots not long

Discribe the clubs you are using. Shaft flex and swing speed if you have that information. Length?

Just guessing, but I am incline to think you are swinging very hard/fast with just your arms, releasing the club way to early, creating tension in your arms, with out getting any help from your torso, and legs. All this leads to a poor impact position, with most of your hitting power used up before the club strikes the ball. Perhaps you are also squeezing the daylights out of the club's grip?

The toughest thing to learn in golf is the faster you swing, the less distance the ball flies, unless you are doing everything right. "Swing easy, hit hard" the man said.

Try using your 6 iron with nice easy swings, while turning your hips towards the target on the down swing. Do this with out consciously using your arm muscles, and just let the club hit the ball.

My oldest grand son had the same problem. He is 6'-4", and a muscular 240 pounds. Swinging a driver for him netted him about 190 yards , but he was only swinging the club through impact with his arms, and more so with just his wrists. He has great football muscles, but does not use them correctly for golf. Once I taught him to wind up on the back swing, and unwind more easily in the down swing, he gained about 70 yards. A little more work with holding his wrist cock a shade longer and he was in the 290 range, with an occasional 300+ yarder. He can still use some work with accuracy, but he has distance now, with out swinging out of his shoes. Right now we are working on him taking the club slightly back to the inside, and up, and then consciously feeling the down swing with club face swing out to right field to impact into the inside rear quadrant of the ball.

U-Tube Earnie Els, and /or Freddy Couples, and look at their swings. Effortless distance best describes their driver swings.

Others will have some added information for you on here. Hopefully some one will talk about the one piece take a way, and down swing. GJS
